Upgraded sky+ hd box not showing any signal

I have just purchased a sky + hd box, as a replacement for a faulty sky + that was working for 3 years (on ebay). The HD box is not "finding" any channels and when I look in the menu on signal strength "no lock" is displayed on both inputs. The signal on coaxes is fine (I have a spare old sky box that works with either of them - my current viewing setup).

Does this mean the box is faulty? Is there an initialisation procedure I had to go thorugh to get signal in? The dealer that sold me the box keeps braging about registering the card with sky, is this needed just to receive the signal?

I was expecting the sky HD box to be working like old sky boxes (the free non-HD channels even without a card) - is this not the case?

    Thanks for help.

I solved the issue about, so for anyone else who might need it:

a "reflash" of the software on the sky HD digibox was required, even if the box doesn't report any signalling coming. This is done by holding the power button (on the top of the box, not remote) with box on, unplugging the power cable (waiting a bit - 1 min) plugging power back, while NEVER releasing the power button. Release the power button after all lights on the front box are on. Wait a while, the lights will go off and the box will reboot (I waited about 15 min altogether). Turn box on, signal now works fine.

It should be the Backup button you hold on the receiver, not the power button.
