that time of the week again. so who is in? no need to tell ye wat we need to do, every game is a must win as the 2 teams above us are dropping very little points. a win here and with them 2 playing each other, our league position will improve again.

must win game, but with the s*ite weather, could make it a lottery. we need to make sure we are tuned in an up for the battle.

I'm going to try something a bit different tonight, tactics wise.

So, if everyone could make the effort to be there on time, so I can talk through it.

As always, if it's not working after about 20minutes, we'll revert back.

I don't want any shouting from the pitch or the sideline after five or ten minutes telling me "it's not working", I can usually see that for myself.

    Thanks

larry, dan and ciaran will be there.

i hope those tactics dont involve the defence des, we have the best record in the league so if it aint broke, dont fix it:D:D:D

4-2 win with two goals really late for us. Both the goals we conceded were unlucky. Mick slipping for the first one and combination of slips and missed headers for the second. Decent performance and Des's move to man mark their number 11 really paid off as we dominated from then on. Good win anyway

how did the new formation that Des came up with work out ?

    good result lads.

Worked well. Started with me and Mark holding and Dave playing a bit more advanced. Got plenty of the ball in there anyway.

i think for the first time ever since i started playing with boards, i can say we had a bit of luck. i maybe wrong also, but i cant remember a game before where we came back from behind to win. 2 goals in last 60 seconds to win it, but overall we deserved it.goals from art to equalize, from a super ball from mick (who i thought was very good in the first half). lepo put us 1 up, they equalised immediately and then we got 2 late goals from art and dave.

our new formation is good in theory and i think it will suit us as the players we have can make it work. it may have played into their hands considering that they only had 10 and we had no shape at times. but if we get used to it, it could help us rip teams apart.

still, a great feeling to have a bit of luck in games and its 3 points no matter how we digest it. table will show a 4-2 win and thats it really...disappointed that we conceded 2, the first should have been cut out, i think we were all caught ball watching and the 2nd in all fairness was a great finish. they created little else.

no result in yet from the top clash.

Your right Ed, we got a bit a luck but we deserved it. Credit to everyone on the pitch, we could have easily taken 2-2 with 1 minute left but we kept pushing and got a nice goal via Arts hard work! and then a good move to make it 4-2.

The new formation worked well for the most part I thought, It left us a bit exposed for the first goal but it allowed a lot of space in front of myself and Mick to push forward. I think its something we can definitely use as teams won't be expecting us to play with a formation like that.

Again its good see the fitness levels staying high, everyone ran non stop for the team, a deserved result!

    Ravenhill beat Glenwood 1-0

Oh and thanks for the lucozade :)

I thought the new formation worked very well myself. We created loads of chances in the first half and having two sitting in front of the back four not only lends support to them but acts as a starting point for most of our forward play, meaning that the ball is hoofed forward less often, which was never going to work on such a greasy pitch where the ball only had to hit the surface before it was going to fly out of play. The first goal was a simple lack of communication - how many times have we discussed that on here?? I thought we missed Mark when he came off but also thought Martin was excellent in there until he was taken off. All in all, a deserved victory!

Well done on another win lads, team seems to be grinding out results more than before and the numbers for each game are brilliant. Nice to see you getting a bit of luck for a change too, usually the rub of the green goes against Boardeaux.

Good win lads, glad to hear that we had a little bit of luck but it sounds like we worked hard for that bit of luck.

the system will suit in the long term as we have players like gav, dave, larry, art, karl, peter etc etc that can play in those 3 positions and then 2 more off them from 3 or 4 more lads. however, we need to work on it, which is only natural as it takes time to get used to something new. we lacked a bit of shape at times the last day, but this will come. coca cola up next and then i china, teams near the bottom, 6 points needed no matter what system we play :)

Yep 6 points and plenty of goals against I china, but important also to keep clean sheets against both of these teams.

just an interesting question, not necessarily related to us, but in general.what would you rather lads?

keep it tight and win games 1-0, 2-1 or

go all out attack like the last night and win 3-2 for example?

like, is it possible to keep clean sheets consistently if we aiming to score lots of goals?!!

Good question Ed, Its great to score goals both for the strikers and the team in general but, if your winning 4-3 or 5-4 in games both the keeper and defense will lose confidence shipping that amount of goals per game and those 4-3 wins could easily become 6-4 or 6-4 losses.

OK, I think the new system has been well received.

Here it is in black and white

    keeper

    rb
    ch
    ch
    lb

    mf
    mf

    --ir
    chf
    il----

    striker

Given the players we have, I think it suits us.

I thought we got a fair bit of joy with the tall "chf" (Dave or Eddie the other night)(centre half forward) dropping into the midfield and winning headers, especially from their kick outs. This meant there were still three players ahead of him to mop of the balls and start attacks.

As mentioned earlier, the two midfielders operating ahead of the defenders were the focal point of starting attacks. Gave the full backs good passing options and generally looked after the defence. Just as important as that I felt that with two sitting midfielders, we won't lose the game as much as we have been in there. I think this worked alright the other night.

Can I talk about the defence again. :)

Lads. Please. Challenge for headers will you? All of you. Thanks.
