Just back from a weekend in Rome - it's both a photographer's dream and nightmare. There are so many beautiful things to photograph, but also so many people that you could never get the exact shot you want. Anyway, here's a few that I've processed so far out of a few hundred. All taken with Canon 50D and either a 17-40 F4 or 50 1.4.

    Comments & criticism welcomed

The Creation (Sistine Chapel - I didn't realise until after I was told to put my camera away that photography was prohibited )

Im beginning to realise just how hard it is to get really interesting shots while on holiday.

I think its a combintion on not knowing the area coupled with the general amount of time you have to shoot.

These are great though, while some of them could be improved upon given more time etc, i reckon the staircase and the sculpture detail are spot on shots.

i like 1,3 and 4 - number 1 works real well for me , the frame of it is super, and quality very good too . whereas the last one the quality is not as crisp , if the water was sharper , it would be excellent .

that's funny Baz, coz the sistine chapel ceiling shot was handheld at 1/10 sec whereas the trevi fountain was a 3.5 sec exposure where the camera was sitting on a wall...if you look closely you can see that it's quite sharp. The sistine chapel isn't as sharp - a combination of slow shutter speed, me looking directly upwards and f/2.0 aperture

    thanks for the comments....

I absolutely love The Staircase and the Fountain shots. I think the lighting around the fountain looks fantastic.

    Thanks for sharing.

Impressive that you got a shot of the Trevi fountain without a mill of people around it!!!

    thanks all for the comments

@Borderfox: I was planning my next trip there on my way home yesterday. There is so much to see and do, especially if you have any interest in history/classics/religion/architecture. We saw everything we wanted to see beforehand, but there is so much more there to see

@Daisy, I think that was a 6 second exposure. A few people might have walked past during that time. Also, I was there just after a huge rain shower, so there wasn't so many people around
