Trypophobia

For years I believed myself to be completely alone (and bizzare) in this phobia; until eventually I discovered a name for it, and seemingly a lot of people the world over have a fear of holes. Not just holes even, but small assymetrical clusters of holes.

For example, this picture does terrible things to me:

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/41894169961@N01/208262843/in/set-72157594226462454/

Or if you really want to get gross:

http://www.snopes.com/photos/medical/breastrash.asp (NSFW, and potentially disturbing for some)

I dont know if I'd call it phobia exactly, in the sense that I actively fear or avoid clusters of holes; but just looking at any structure like that makes me want to vomit. It absolutely repulses me. I get this weird itching sensation in my skin and then I cant get the image out of my head. Even now just thinking about them I'm getting short of breath.

Anybody else have this? Validate me please :o

breast picture is fake. too uniform, also dont think the maggots would care to peek out and the skin isn't inflammed or secreting pus or anything.

Video on that page = morbidly fascinating.

I admit that holes like that have a 'freaky' factor.. but I dont think they would scare me. Then again I have no phobia. Though I am interested, WHY do they freak you out ? Some thing about falling or being sucked into them ?

well I know its fake (its one of the first things pointed out in the link), but its not the maggots that bother me.. give me a puss-filled maggot-infested sore over a collection of tiny little holes any day. I mean, the video doesnt really phase me at all, despite it being genuine. There is just something really unnerving about a random cluster of holes like that.

To be honest, I'm not really sure why they freak me out. They dont scare me as such (wrong forum?!) but I cant stand to look at them; almost like scratching your nails against a blackboard kind of effect. They make me really uncomfortable. I cant explain it :(

    And it can vary a bit as well, this frog video for example has the same effect on many Trypophobics;

I'm not afraid of the holes but I think the pics you've posted would make anyone a bit scuzzed out. Personally I think they're scummy but I love scummy stuff so I kind of like the pics because they're so horrible.

I know that picture you've put up and I can't even bring myself to open it. I knew it was fake and yet the sight of it still makes me sick, but then in fairness it is a particularly disgusting looking picture. I say your well entitled to be sickened by that!

Heh, maybe I didnt pick the best pictures to illustrate this, as they'd probably sicken most ordinary people.

    Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!
    WTF is that!!!!

I find the holes thing quite unpleasant actually. In fact now I believe I have a new phobia too!!!

I'm terrified of frogs and that link has freaked the **** out of me.

I have something like this too! I get freaked out crossing dried, cracked mud - the patterns in it scare me. And that lotus flower picture is sickening... Also the insides of passion fruits, and verrucas, and loads of microscope slides they use in first year science practicals - repetitive cells, urgh...

The breast picture is sickening too, for the hole-y reason, and the internal parasites phobia reason too... Now I feel sick, crap:(

but small assymetrical clusters of holes.

Even reading that snippet there gave me the shivers.

I googled it and found loads of people like us out there but the sites i was checking weren't the most reputable, crappy html-y geocities sites y'know like something a parent made up to classify something for little Johnny's problem.

But now i know the name of it from yourself's post!

I found this forum from work boredom just now and i knew that that thread was my phobia, it's more like a disgust-obia.

The centre of a mellon - ahhh
    Bee's Honeycomb - ahhh
A sponge with holes - aahhhh
Swiss cheese with holes - ahhh
Lotus flower as the previous lad said

Didn't even look at your post pics.

I have some freckles too, and after execise in a hot clime isn't the most attractive thing looking back at me in the mirror too so you can imagine.

I always found the metallic filter with teh little holes that they put over the drain in sinks to be kinda gross, especialy when I was younger, and the other day I saw one in a urinal. Not cool.

Aghhhh - I feel so strongly about holes in skin that I finally registered for boards!!!! I had no idea there were others who felt the same - my family regularly slag me about it - my sister had a mole removed a few yrs ago and so she has a small hole in her skin on her arm now - I literally gag anytime I catch sight of it and after (stupidly!) looking at that breast picture, I know I'm gonna be awake for a while gagging!!!!!!

I have no idea what it is that makes me feel so sick- its mainly holes in skin for me though.
