Channel 4 question?

I have Sky+ at the moment and I have Channel 4 and Channel 4 +1 Ch 135 and 136 respectively as part of the Sky EPG. However some programming is blocked out occasionally for rights reasons etc.

However what I want to know is this programming blocked out specifically for Channel 4 on the ROI Sky Epg or is it normal for Channel 4 broadcast on satellite outside of the Freesat from Sky encryption cards.

I know Channel 4 is broadcast FTA on Satellite; so what I really want to know is are the same programmes that are blocked on the ROI Sky EPG available on FTA satellite or the freesat/sat4free (same thing really) platforms.

Eg. If a movie is blocked on Channel 4 on Sky would it be available else where or even if I tuned in Channel 4 via the "other channels" on the Sky digibox.

I am thinking of going for a FTA Freesat+ PVR when they launch as it is a pain to watch the likes of ITV, FIVE and BBC3, BBC4 etc, via other Channels. I can't see why Sky don't integrate them into the EPG especially when they are all FTA now and allow the functioning of Sky+ on them. I am going to dump Sky after xmas because of this as much of what is on Sky is FTA anyway, and the rest is hardly worth it.

The programmes that are blocked on the Channel 4 you pay for (on the Sky EPG) are available on the version you do not pay for (Other Channels).

Excellent, thanks for the fast response Mossy! Oh well more wading through "other channels", and yet another positive for Freesat or Sat4free. Why do C4 & Sky even bother when you can so easily circumvent it? I hope freesat takes off so Sky will be forced to give us ROI viewers a better EPG lineup more in par with the UK Equivalent. I think it will happen as more ROI customers dump Sky mainly due to the recession and as Freesat grows.

The average Irish Sky customer is on the 6 entertainment pack for €31/month while the similar (no RTE etc.) 6 entertainment packs in the UK cost £22/month which at the current sterling exchange rate is €26/month which sees us ROI Sky customers getting ripped off by €5/month for a worse quality service. Plus the majority of people are only with Sky due to the picture quality and because RTÉ/TV3 are on it due to the awful terrestrial picture quality in Ireland and lack of both DTT & FTA Satellite "terrestrial" Channels such as RTÉ1, RTÉ2, TV3, and TG4.

Closing this, as there are 2 sticky threads on Channel4 already.
