Lack of self confidence

I've had no confidence all my life. I'm in my 30s now and while I am a lot better than I was, lack of confidence affects my work, my relationships, my whole life. I know what I need to do, and I'm great at helping others in the same position, but when any kind of crisis occurs, the old lack of self confidence rises again, and I bottle out.

There are other issues too, nothing too dramatic, but all adding up to a life lived far from it's potential, and a constant feeling of worry, inability to get up and get what I want, and overall a wasted life.

I want to know if a counsellor could help me. Talking through problems would be a help anyway, I know, but I mean can a counsellor offer specific advice to help you overcome these problems, rather than just listening to you? I would consider it, but I'd like to know if others went for counselling, and what specific help they got from it. Thanks.

Counsellors do help but it'll take time, you're not gonna feel that much of a different person after your first visit but maybe after your 3rd or 4th visit you might start to feel a change in yourself for the good...

I'ld say look up some of the books/tapes by self help/success experts like Anthony Robbins. His stuff is amazing and really quite change my life. I'ld recommend his stuff to anyone who's sick of their current life and turn it around to a more confident, rich and successful one.
Google him, go to his website and you should be able to find something that will suit you and help you not just feel better about yourself, but also actually notice and see the change in your life.

I'm starting to sound like a marketing guy for him here, but seriously, his stuff is amazing and does work, i'll definitely recommend you to give it a shot and see for yourself if it brings any change to your life.

I was in a pretty awful stage last summer after a horrible break up, i went to a counsellor a few times, he was a nice guy and listen to all of my rants, but i'ld say it was listening to Anthony Robbins tapes which really helped me. I was becoming really depressed with zero self confidence and was developing the whole social anxiety thing. Then I was listening to one of his tapes where he went on about how you can change in a moment and all you've gotta do is first change your identity and beliefs about yourself (he went into a lot more details obviously). After listening to that tape I was really inspired enough that i changed myself in a moment back to the person i really was. I was no longer depressed, i felt a lot more confident and i no longer suffered from social anxiety. And I still don't suffer from any of those. All thanks to his tapes motivating me to stop seeing myself as that pathetic little thing and stepping up to change my life!!

So yeah, it works... try it, it worked for me, it should work for you too!

Going to a counselor is most certainly a positive thing to do. In this instance he/she will talk through your previous life choices and how you can make confident choices in the future. There is also a lot of stuff online and in book format. They too can also give you a big boost, but a counselor will most likely help you get to the root of your lack of confidence!

Check out this blog. It has lots of easily digestable info on pretty much everything from enjoying your relationships to self improvement.

It may just give you some clues and tips!

Good luck whatever you do ;)
