power from usb ports on xps m1530?

I'm looking at an external hard drive that uses power from the usb port. It requires at least 650mA from the usb port to work without a special adapter.

Does anyone know what the power output of the usb ports on xps m1530 and inspiron 1501 are, or where to look to find the specs...they are not on the dell website specs for the laptops.

    Thanks.

Exactly. The hard drive youre looking at will definitely require a Y-cable and 2 usb ports. Reportedly Usb 3.0 will support higher power output but that standard wont be seen on a laptop for another year.
