projector and mirrors

    Hi all,

Im looking to set up a projector, the catch is I want to mount the projector very close to the screen and then use a mirror to angle the beam onto it, so as to avoid people blocking the light when moving around.

Has anyone any advice as to how best to go about mounting the mirror? or any other solutions?

    Many thanks

This approach is regularly used in commercial type rear - projection set ups, but usually in an enclosed space. It usually requires the projector to be placed at an angle so that the combination of the angle of the pj and the andle of the mirror allows a long projection path in an enclosed space. You need to bear in mind that a mirror half way along a projection path will need to be a substantial size. The other critical issue to keep in mind is that the vast majority of home cinema projectors are not designed to be used other than a couple of degrees from the horizontal - this makes attempts at "folded" projection paths very difficult, or the projected image relatively small, depending on the overall distance to screen. To keep the projector horizontal and maintain a large images, a double mirror projection path is usually used, with size and alignment issues to be resolved.

Have you experimented with the projector and mirror already ? It should be a simple matter to make a mount for a mirror with an adjustment for the angle, oncel you've sorted out te positions and distance issues.

    Hey saoranach,

What type of projector are you interested in.

Using mirrors with alot of todays home Theatre projectors can be tricky as Ritz has explained well.

If this is a commerical setup then choosing a projector with lens shift and a cool feature like 3D Reform found in some NEC projector can make this very easy to do.

Basically the difficulty comes down to the type of projector. Mounting your mirror even slightly off and it can be impossible to get the projector image right.
