PSP3 From America To Ireland?

    Hi,

    Can anyone tell me is it worth it to buy an American PS3 and bring it to Ireland? What would be the down side of doing this? Any help with this would be most appreciated as I have a very expectant 13 year old Nephew!!

    I know when we brought the XBox 360 home when they first came out...the issue was with the games, Irish Games would not play on it.

    A US PS3 will:

    play all PS3 games you buy in Ireland.
    play some blu-ray movies you buy in Ireland.

    A US PS3 will not:

    play Irish DVDs.
    play Irish PS2/PSOne games.

    I'm not sure what the price difference is, but to be honest, you may be better off buying one in Ireland or the UK. You won't get hit with customs, and you won't have any compatibility issues. With the sterling exchange rate so favourable at the moment, you can probably make a considerable saving by buying from a UK retailer.

    Where would you suggest buying it from, that would be both cheap and reputable? I am in Texas so haven't a clue where to buy stuff like this now in Dublin.

    What are the current Irish/UK prices at the moment?

    PS3s will retail for a set price in each territory. In the Republic, an 80gb PS3 retails at 399 euro. In the UK, an 80gb PS3 retails at 299.99 sterling (about 350 euro). Zavvi.co.uk (formally Virgin Megastores) offer free delivery to the UK & Ireland.

    There are other considerations - most high-street retailers will offer discounted bundle deals with extra controllers/games. Larger supermarkets like Tesco also occasionally sell them below the RRP, or offer back loyalty points etc.
