    Hello,

I want to get this helicopter for my boyfriend for Christmas. He is completely new to this but I know he will love it. Can you please advise me if this helicopter is a good purchase? Also based on the description below what else will I need to get for him to have a fully functional model? I believe I will need to buy a battery charger, controller, etc? This price is about the limit of my budget so perhaps I need to look at something different? I would like quite a large helicopter as this Irish weather can be quite windy and I believe the larger ones are more stable. Also what tools are needed to assemble this? Any advice you can give me would me much appreciated.

Needs battery, charger and rotor blades.
I don't see the radio control unit either.
Financially speaking that list contains 1/2 to 2/3rds of the gear required.

Is this for learning to fly on?
    It's a big (3 Kgs) heli.
Powerful. It will only take 30 seconds (or less) to wipe out 150 euro worth of it if you don't already know how to fly.
Either an instructor is needed or computer flight simulater - also to be added to the cost of getting it into the air.

Suggestion: Get a 400 or 450 size if he can't fly yet.
You'll feel better when you see what happens to them during the learning phase.

Or budget for the flight sim too and clock 200 virtual crashes on it before touching the real model. (Not a joke - good advice with a 3kg heli !)

Radio - about 200 for budget one. Then need to learn how to program it.

Batteries for this model are over 200 euro. You will probably want two of them anyway.

Decent charger, balancer and power supply for the batteries - over 200.

    Flight sim - about 100.

    That's about 900 more!

This is a very big helicopter for starting out on.
Although it is more stable it will be a very expensive learning process in terms of batteries (you'll need more than 1 pack for any decent air time) and repairs, the bigger they are the harder they fall.
My recommendation would be to get him a sim(real flight G4 or Phoenix) and a starter helicopter (ESky Dauphine or e-flite Blade CXII) both of which can be flown indoors (handy for our weather and the fact that it's winter now). This should cost less than you're paying for just the helicopter kit you mentioned.
If he's still hooked when the summer comes he'll be happy to upgrade to something bigger for outdoors.

trex 450 would be better to start off as a beginner, its much cheaper to get flying and repair, and less intimidating for learning.

I have the 450 and 600 and they can be seen on this link

    http://www.youtube.com/robbie77300

the second last video is the trex 450 which as has been said is better if new to flying, the very first video is the trex 600 filmed from the ground. others are camera`s fitted to the 600.

The 600 is far more expensive to get in the air and also when there`s a bit of a crash. The 450 is a great one to start with.

The list you have is really only the kit to build the helicopter. you need radio system, battery`s, charger, gyro, that will bring the price up to 3 or 4 times the price of the kit itself, where as the 450 is far cheaper,
