    Hi,

I'm starting a company that will produce designer ladies fashion and want a strong brand name. Anybody have any experience in building a brand name, any ideas/suggestions?

    Thanks...

    Hi Tony,

I usually start with 100 names that myself and others come up with. Then cut it down to twenty names that will relate to your target market. out of this twenty probably five will be the best. You'll need to ensure that the name you go for has an available web domain and that it's not taken by another brand. Because your creating a fashion brand you'll need a name that sounds chic or fresh. This takes alot more care and thought. You'll be suprised how much thought can go into this process. Choose the name that will connect with your core market.

I believe that branding goes hand in hand with your company's core principles. It doesn't really matter what name you pick, but how you present it, that's the key.

Fashion is where most other business sectors learn how to brand from, so I'm sure you will get much better advice from someone in the industry.

Hi, thanks for the suggestions, well, the brand name has already been decided on and it is LadyUmbrella...I'm more curious about how one can grow the brand?

    Thanks,

I'm more curious about how one can grow the brand?

By spending lots & lots of money on marketing.
Unless you can come up with some very clever & original ideas for guerilla marketing then creating a new brand is a very expensive business unfortunately.

The only real way to create a brand is to get your name into the mind of of your target market everytime they want to buy your product (or one similar). This is done with consistent advertising in press, tv & radio.

Remember, companies like Nike, Apple, Sony etc spend tens of millions of dollars every year on advertising and brand promotion. They are well known & established companies and yet they still need to spend this money to keep their name in the public mind.

My advice is not to worry about branding to much at this early stage and concentrate on building your business. Once you have a strong, established business then you can use that as a foundation for any future branding project.

    Tony,

I just had a quick look at your site and I would suggest you get a proper email account (eg..sales@ladyumbrella.com) from your web guys.

A free gmail/hotmail account on a business website looks terrible, cheap and very amatureish.

Ye, I agree with you on that point regarding the e-mail address, I'll get that sorted...thanks...

Not sure about the logo either Tony it doesn't exactly convey a killer brand also if it's clothing I presume you'll want to put the logo on your clothing - you need something simple that can transfer from print to clothing effectively. I can't see your current logo doing that.

    I've come over all Bill Cullen-y now:D

get a proper logo, that looks awful currently. Clothing in particular needs special attention to its image

Logo is not good - reads more like Lad Umberella at first.

And like others have said. Do not spend time/energy/money on a logo - focus on building your business. Get some art students to construct a logo as a project and throw them a few pints by way of thank you.

Actually, that said, the woman with the umberella head is kinda growing on me...

you absolutely should spend money on your branding. It's a fashion label, branding is incredibly important for that industry.
