Warning! Perfect Pitch Music selling knock off Gibson Les Pauls as the genuine!

I was in Perfect Pitch last Friday night as they were open late and advertising a sale. I went over to the wall were the Gibson Les Pauls were hanging, the moment I picked them up the felt light, then on the back of the headstock the serial numbers were crooked and not stamped in but looked like some sort of painted on and then laminated over. Closer inspection showed that the binding was crooked on the cutaway.

They were selling these as real Gibsons at the going market rate.

I would strongly urge anyone considering buying a Les Paul from Perfect Pitch to take along an expert with them.

Or boycot them for trying to rip us off?

Do you have any official confimation that these are knock offs or are you just guessing? Emailing Gibson with the serial numbers would do it.

Hi feylya, all Gibson serial numbers are stamped, not painted on. Second, emailing Gibson the serial numbers wouldn't be enough as these can be taken off legitimate guitars and be stamped, or in this case painted on, counterfeit guitars. They'd want pictures.

The fact that these serial numbers are painted on versus stamped is a big sign, that alone means they are fake.

Unless you have definitive prove, I will have to close this thread as it is libelous.

Did you play any of these guitars? Asides from weight were they particularly poor in the way they played?

I have definitive proof, I have been playing guitar for 30 years, own several Gibson Les Pauls. These guitars are fake. Also, they've been known to sell knock offs in the past but as knock offs, not the genuine article. About two years ago your man had a counterfeit Lea Paul he was selling for €600, on the price tag it said "Chinese Gibson". When I questioned the shop attendant last Friday night he said "other people have said they are fake as well, and I've had my suspicions"

Also, the fact that the serial numbers are not stamped is definitive proof. Headstock serial number should match those of authentic Gibson guitars. Also Gibson Les Pauls use a nitrocelluous laquer, not a polyurethane lacquer. These guitars had a thick polyurethane lacquer applied, think of it like a plastic seal around the whole body and neck.

Yep, they have about half the weight of any of my Les Pauls and they buzzed all over the neck.

Until I get some definitive proof, preferably from Gibson, I'm going to have to close this thread.
