Irish itunes store

Is there any information available on when the Irish itunes store will be getting films to rent or buy or even tv shows? There are a few european itunes stores that have this already, the uk one has both films and tv shows while the german and french have tv shows.

So is it possible we will see something similar for us soon?

Also, what are peoples opinions on buying tv episodes/films from itunes?
Would people be into renting stuff from it?

Having read some of the comments on the uk store, the eps seem to be quite dear.

I personally think it's quite cool and would love to see it up and running. The convenience of having it right there when you want it and to throw onto the iphone/ipod touch and carry away with you is great.

    Any thoughts?

I'm all for the itunes irish store! I really think that it will finally persuade me to get an apple tv.

As for you question on whether or not i would use it? It's a fair question. But i definitely will use it for renting movies. I cannot stand another scratched disk from extravision! I had no luck with moviestar either as it just p!ssed me off that i never got the movies that i wanted. But now, with the itunes store it would mean that we can get movies on demand pretty much.

As for tv shows and series'? Well, i think i would probably be less likely to buy shows just because i missed it on tv as i have Sky+HD take care of all that for us. Also,i feel form browsing other coutries stores i feel that some of the prices for previous seasons are a bit pricey. Put it this way, i'd check to make sure that it wasn't reduced in zavvi or HMV etc first.

But in a nutshell, im really hoping for it too come soon!! Infact, someone else on here mentioned that it was on its way! I sure hope they're right

cheers for the quick reply! :)

I'm hoping it comes soon too. I guess it wouldn't be a substitute for tv but just the convenience of having the possibility is really great.

As long as the prices aren't too dear then I would be happy to use it frequently.

I was reading about the itunes store earlier and the uk one started up around june '05 I think and the Irish one started up in the following January. Considering that the uk store got the films/tv shows around june/july this year (i think, not too sure) it might be a fair assumption that the time frame will be similar and we will get an update in a couple of months. In time for the new season of Lost! :)

Also, looking at the uk store there seems to be quite a good lot of uk shows. I wonder if it is a requirement to have a certain percentage of content from the country the store is in? what kind of stuff would go on the irish store? father ted? podge and rodge?

I too would love to see it happen to rent films. Apple said they would go International with film rentals this year but they only got to the UK, Canada and Australia, which is understandable because they have to obtain the rights for each country. Hopefully Ireland is next on their list. Maybe at MacWorld.

I'd really love it too. I'd just be worried that I'd destroy my download cap (Bloody Eircom).

Yeah, some others on here actually have US accounts an I was very tempted but decided to hold out. Not that much of a loss really, well, that is presuming it comes early 09!

I really really hate these annoying rights issues. The money grubbing corporations are so far behind where their customers are right now with regards how people want to get their content.

I like the BT TV on demand only pay for the shows you watch idea because in reality I only really watch about 3-4 shows regularly with my UPC/NTL 40+ channel package.

I got the folks an Apple TV last year and was forced to find a way to get them a US iTunes account purely in order for them to get value out of it.

It's Apple's own fault that the device doesn't sell as well as it could, (cough...extra codec support). While Apple had to support mp3 in the audio world they seem to think they can get away with not licensing the most popular video format...so far. AppleTV take 3 + divx/xvid support would be a winner.

First of all, stop shouting :) (CAPS LOCK for everything is a bad idea in any forum)...

Secondly, this has been discussed in many threads - here's the most recent one I've seen:

    http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055429567

And most specifically, this post by Su dios:

    http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=58149979&postcount=18

I have a US account myself and it works fine. Do note (it's discussed in that thread I believe) that Apple recently changed their T&Cs to mention that you cannot be using US content if you are outside the US. Which means that they could disable our accounts if they so choose...

What do you want to do? Copy them from iTunes, or watch trailers in iTunes?

Apple wont support Xvid or Divx because more people will illegaly download movies rather than use the iTunes Store. Apple wont add more codecs because they can get away without adding more, thats the unfortunate truth.

Did you not know before you bought the unit that there was no iTunes rental in Ireland?

I want to copy them from itunes or even copy a DVD of my own to the iPod.
I just think we are gettn a bum deal, we pay more for the iPhone or iPod touch than the u.k or u.s and we cans do the stuff from iTunes that they do.
    That's just wrong.

Yes copy them from itunes onto my ipod, there doesn't seem to be a movie trailer section, or am I not looking properly?

I've had a US iTunes account since they started doing movie rentals. What ya do is buy US iTunes Cards on ebay. They code is emailed to you.
Sign out of any existing account you have and in the iTunes Store click 'Redeem iTunes Gift Card' and it will lead you into account set up. Just google any US address. I think I used Macys in New York.

I have the Apple TV also so I can just stream movies striaght to tv (in HD also). However I don't like the way Apple are offering new releases for sale about 3 weeks before the go to rental. All movies are made available for sale and rental the same day in shops, Apple are being greedy.

Also the $4 rental works out a lot cheaper than if there was Irish movies rentals, they'd probably be €4. Also I pay €0.69 ($0.99) rather than Irish iTunes €0.99 even though I never pay to download music, i'm just saying if I did want to pay for music, it would be cheaper than Ireland.

Beware from buying US iTunes Vouchers from Ebay because 99.9% of them are bought using stolen credit cards, and when Apple finds out they will close your account.

You can put your own DVD's on your iPod.

Handbrake is the one I use too. Doesn't work with all DVD's though. :(
