People you used to know?

So yesterday walking through town came across two people I used to know.

One was an old boss, I said "Hello Hows things", all I got back was a smile. I used to get on very well with this person when they were my boss, oh well I walked on .

Secondly , I went to a local shop of mine and a person I used to go to school with when I was younger was behind the counter, prob aint seen them in about 12 years. So again I said "Hello , how are things", all I got was that will be 12 euro , it all felt very weird. I went to school with this person for most of primary school, and lived very close to them, and hung out with them when I was younger.

Anyways on many occasions I have done this myself, but on these two occasions it was point blank confrontations, so I couldnt ignore these people.

    Anyone experience this?

An odd time. Generally with old school friends who I didn't keep in contact with after the Leaving Cert.

I'm sure it's just that they didn't recognise you or something. I've had this happen to me with a girl that I used to go to school with, I said oh hi and she just said eh hi and walked on but it was only when I used her name she looked at me properly and realised who I was and then everything was fine.

    Don't let it worry you.

That would go a long way to explaining why they didn't recognise you.

Get a trademark thing e.g. snorting when you laugh, a twitch, red hair, very short/tall, one arm longer than the other etc. Something like that will make you stand out.

I go out of my way to avoid people that I might know. There's a reason they're not in your life more often, so what's the point being all faux-friendly. If I see someone from school in the shops or something, I just blank them and move on. Unless they say hello first, then they'll get a hello in response.

Or he could develop all of the above so that he will be remembered forever.

Yep, I'm terrible for failing to recognise people out of context ... I may have a sense that the face is vaguely familiar, but it can be hours later before the penny drops, or it may not drop at all!
