win xp freezes on login screen

    hi all,

    woke up this morning and my pc wont go past the login screen... it just freezes

    I've gone into safe mode and done a spybot search and destroy,, didnt help

    then again in safe mode i did a system restore to a few days ago still not working.

    Anyone any ideas?

    interesting, there is a system log in XP in control panel/administrative tools.
    anything show up there ?

    i assume you didnt put in any new hardware (or software even?) last night ?

    no nothing new, shut off pc at bed time woke up and like this, i'll check the log and see if theres anything there

    Can you access last known good config by hitting F8 during boot?

    this is what the system log says last night before i switched off

    id try in the device manager too - incase it comes up saying there are any hardware not installed correctly. something might have gone tails up ?

    believe it or not AVAST was running faulty.. i uniunstalled and all in working !! back to AVG for me
