Im in the market for a strat, but not at Irish retailer prices. Has anyone purchased from Thomann.de?

    If so, are they reliable?
What is their aftersales service like?
are the they cheapest or are there cheaper?

There is a whole sticky dedicated to thomann.de. Yes they are reliable. Check out Xmusic on the naas road, probably just as cheap as thomann. Or close enough.

Used Thomann quiet a few times and to answer all your questions yes they are relieable with good communication with sales people. Never had to deal with 'em after sale but i'd imagine it would be ok. :)

Bought from them once, (after I looked through the sticky ;)), everything was perfect.

They are reliable. After sales service has a reputation of being iffy. Xmusic in Naas will match prices with Thomann I believe, however given the current strength of the Euro against the Sterling you might find better bargains on UK websites like http:www.gak.co.uk.

Well, why don't you simple go to an Irish shop and try out what you want. Price it online and simple ask the shop in question will they match the price and if they will tell them you'll buy it there and then. I did it yesterday and to my surpirse they did.

really? they could match the on-line price? was on the high end of the price scale?

the same guitar was on gak for about 400 quid cheaper and unfortunately xmusic cant match that price. the reason the UK prices are so low is is because to Fender GBI dictate their own exchange rate which is about 20-30% lower than it should be.

In fairness its a valid reason and they really cannot be expected to compete with that. its a shame. the guy in xmusic was very helpful and honest. i believe their reason for the prices. i just have to decide is the extra money worth having the bricks and mortar store nearby for repairs in case anything goes wrong with the instrument.

Well I called shops in town. One said no and the other one said yes.

It was advertised for 995 in the store. I was looking at a few weeks back and got the best offer of 850. Went in and simple said I want that its 750 online can you match it yes or no. If yes I'll take it now. He went out back and came back 2mins later and said yes.

Now, don't think this was something that the shop had for years. This is brand new no more than 1 month on the floor and was not hooked up so it got very little use. Worked fine that night.

I had the same reason explained to me. Its a shame really. They're hands are tied on alot of things.
