Mess : need to close business

    Hi,

I was looking for some advice on what to do with a company I started up about 20 months ago, but it didn't get very far (4000 euro revenue, a lot more expenses) but then haven't done anything much with (12+ months).

I have got my annual returns in with the CRO but didn't realise about revenue registration and so never registered with them... and I am an Australian citizen and have left Ireland...

So, I looked up voluntary strike off but need a letter from the Revenue commissioners, or can not put in any more CRO annual returns and wait for involuntary strike off. I am not planning on returning to Ireland to be resident or looking to be a director there again.

Any advice and help much appreciated.

    Cheers, Wombat11

If you are sure you won't be back let them strike you off involuntarily.
But you better be sure because they can restrict you or disqualify you as a director of a company in future.

I would recommend contacting Revenue and confessing all. As you've obviously left the country, you should not be liable for tax payments (in theory), as you would have been able to claim them all back in any case.

You could just leave it alone, and be struck off the companies register etc., but there could be problems down the line if you wish to be a Director of another company and it's found that you were struck off.

My advice overall - don't leave loose ends, and they won't jump up and bite you in the arse later on. :D

+1 thats the best possible advice. Too often I deal with "nightmares" that could have been easily dealt with at source.

Yes revenue will be able to set you up and cease you off, you will have to fill in the forms tho id imagine (tr2 for registering) (trcn1 for cancellation), when all this is sorted thye can issue you with a "letter of no objection" for the strike off. I was involved in something similar before, give them a ring tho for sure
