    What are they looking for??

I'm giving everything i've got into my portfolio as i really don't want to do a plc course but if i need to, i will!

    So, all answers appreciated :D
    Thanks

Your best bet is actually going to the DIT campus on Mountjoy Square, where Visual communications is taught.

One rule of thumb is that portfolio revieweres don't really want to see exact photographic drawings of everyday objects like a shoe. They would like to see more in the line of a picture of a shoe made out of a bunch of fur-stripped cows exposing their leather.

They want you to become a creative graphic designer or an art director, rather than a print setter or a design technician, etc.

I got full marks in the portfolio in viscom last year... they dont look for a specific theme like NCAD, they want to see that you can do a range of things like drawing, photography, painting, printmaking, mixed media pieces... I had about two notebooks... one with mixed media pieces and paintings to back up my finished pieces (I had about 14 finished pieces A2 size) then the other notebook was a photography one... and then I had about 10life drawings that I made a notebook from... a few typography pieces would probably help too... and I'd recommend that you do everything by hand rather than on the computer...

Btw, I'd strongly recommend a PLC course. I did one last year and I don't find this year as daunting as the people fresh out of school
