I'e had a ps3 now a while (about 5 months I wager) and I have never been pushed to cough up the extra cash for blu ray versions of films I buy.

Until now, HMV were doing a deal on 2 blu ray films for $40. ot great but, seeing as its 3 dvds for $30 normally and 2 films I wanted to see I really wanted the visual element to remain intact so I opped for the blu ray versions.

One of them was Wall -E and as I took it up to the counter I noticed that it has written across the top *2 disc edition*

    2 disc edition

    on blu ray

    wait?

isnt blu ray meant to be five times the size of dvd...and we already going double discs???

    what the hell happened?

I know HD is a bit sizier then standard (about 3 megs for every 1 roughly)

but come on, Wall -E ist that long and the extras it comes with are not that substantial! Not that I see so far

anyone have any idea why they went double disc?

I dont know why it caught me, its just something that bugged me about the size of blu ray was a big boast and we are already double teaming it.

Another side topic For Shame Disney!

personal philosaphy on DVD packages, when you pay out for the *2 disc edition* you are officially exempt from crappy ads at the start. you paid extra not to be bombarded with crap.

    just how I see it.

Rental DVDs, stuff them full of ads and crap, they're rental, person is only going to watch it once maybe get some mileage out of it

1 disc editions have a few skipable ads

2 disc edition GET TO THE F*CKIN MOVIE!

would the second disc not be full of extras, aka crap?

yeah but i thought the point of blu ray is that you can shove it all on the one crappy disc.

Yeah bluray disks are bigger but that space is used to give you a better picture than DVD can achieve. It's not simply a place to dump all that crap one usually associates with Disc2's.

I agree with the rant about DVD's with ad's at the start. Nobody wants them, nobody needs them. If it takes me more than 5 seconds to stick a disk in til it gets to the main menu then those responsible are gonna die!

I know aboutthe increase in size, but it roughly goes at a 3 to 1 ratio compared to standard definition (and thats before we go into talks of compression)

Again the blu ray boasts as I put it in the drive that its 5 times the size of a dvd.

That would mean even if Wall E was the size of 3 dvds in HD there are still roughly 2 dvds of space.

They must have alot of crap to put on this.

I think I may have found the cause of it it though, It seems one of the commentary tacks has this silohouette of 4 members of staff on screen at times

they might have been really lazy and ran that out as second video track rather then code it as a interactive overlay.

    sort of pointless though.

How many audio tracks are in the movie? Audio is usually uncompressed on Bluray disks.

It's simply because 2 discs sounds like you're getting more value for your money.

A dual layer disc can hold 50 GB. Which is about 3 and a half hours of HD content. Usually most extra features aren't shot in HD though.

Except I'm nearly positive I read that the extra features for Wall-E were all shot in HD, so maybe thats what accounts for the second disc?

    the list from the back:

    blu ray exclusive features:

    -Burn e short (+ commentary/boards treack) on disc 1
-Cine-explore (commentary track) on disc 1
-Geek track (commentary track 2) on disc 1
the axiom arcade (mini games) on disc 2
3d set fly through on dsc 2

Then there's the usual dvd features
    Presto (disc 1)
3 making of features (disc 2)
    deleted scenes (disc 2)
lots of bots storybook (disc 2)

    and more!

    hmm

with the exception of the mini games and set fly through all the hd stuff is on disc 1 it seems

Would you recommend the blu ray version of Wall-E??

I don't know if I should get the DVD or the Bluray, DVD will mean I can play it in any room in the house on any tv, blu ray will confine me to the sitting room!!
