Reliability of GPU in new MaBook Pro's?

Is anyone aware of any failures with the new model MacBook Pro's with the 9400M & 9600M GT GPU's?

From what I've read both of these cards were effected by the issues plaguing nvidia at present.
Since this laptop was announced after these issues came to light I'm hoping they are not susceptible.

    care to share?

i've read absolutely nothing to suggest that there are any issues with these GPUs. I don't think nvidia could afford another fail of such epic proportions - as such, I'd imagine they will have made extra-sure nothing was wrong with them.

    the 9400 is a G96 core and the 9600 is a G96 (i believe)

    i believe they're both clear.

The only details of nvidia chips I could find was on wikipedia (link), and who knows how accurate that may be.
The 9600M GT is listed as G96, but there are no details for the 9400M.

I think I'm gonna chance it and get a new MacBook Pro in the next month or so.
Are Apple any good for deals around Xmas? Just missed the free ipod offer.

Apple are so popular, they don't bother with Xmas deals ;)

Oh, and 9600-chips are so new that there's been no reports of widely-failing GPUs... yet :)(they'll probably be fine)

If any manufacturer gets hit by the economic slump I'd say it'll be Apple with their luxury priced kit.
Hopefully I'm right and they might have some offers soon :)

Welcome to the forum RichyX!! Nice to have you here. And going Apple is an excellent idea. Of course you could always go second-hand if you are looking for a good deal hint hint nudge nudge lol!!

    Thanks Katie :)
Only going Apple for Final Cut Pro tbh :p

btw, does anyone know which GPU is utilised if you dual boot with Windows?
From what I've read Apple say Windows can only use the 9600, while nvidia say it uses whichever GPU was the last one OS X used.

Any reports I've heard say it's the discrete one.

There seems to be a lot of conflicting info out there.
Can anyone with a MBP confirm what's true?

How quick are Apple Ireland when it comes to orders?
Thinking I might as well jump on this if there's sod all chance of them doing a decent special offer. Need the thing before Xmas anyway.
