I need to sort myself out with a new internet connection. starting from scratch, i've no land line, nothing, no connection.

Am i best to stump for eircom and get a strong connection via landline, or would something like broadband in a box like clearwire do the job? anyone know anything about "perlico"??

Defo go for a hard line connection, I know iPoker has major issues with wireless connections since the update.

No stay away from all that broadband in a box. UPC (NTL) is the way to go, i take it that you have a tv line? They use the one line for all of their TV/Broadband/Phone connections so no need to stump up for a telephone line. They have imo the best broadband available, customer service is a bit shoddy but for value for money they are top class http://www.upc.ie/internet/

    Hope that helps.

Smart telecom if u can get em, no download limits, and good speeds, no torrent throttling (which NTL are guilty of), and no disconnect. apparently ntl send a reset package regularily and can interupt gaming (not poker, video games stuff).

I'm with Smart too and found their customer service fairly good whenever I've had problems in the past.

I have bad experiences with NTL and eircom (through TV and internet respectively) but maybe things have gotten better with them.

I got 02 mobile broadband for €13 per month on the student offer. I exeeded my 10GB download monthly limit in about 1 week downloading music, films etc. Then they told me that they would be charging me 2c per MB of downloads after this. So I stopped downloading anything and just used it to browse the web and play poker. Anyway little did I know that by even playing poker or browsing the web I was still technically downloading files constantly and yesterday I get stuck with a bill of €280 in exceeded costs.
The 02 broadband is now in the bin and I'm back to having no broadband provider. Ooops!

I knew I was still downloading info to my server and stuff but I thought this was just small files and would only cost a small amount extra. It was completely retarded of me really, and my housemate's have already slagged me senseless.
