Prague - Weekend break - birthday present

    Hi,

Thinking of booking Prague for a weekend in late Jan for my girldfriends birthday. I've been doing a fair bit of looking around online and it looks cheap as chips!

So far I've found return flights for 2 at 150eu altogether (couldn't believe the price!!) and 4star hotels in good locations at 55 odd a night!

Looked at some restaurant menus and food looks cheap too.

Anyone been there that found it really cheap and good?
Basically what I look for in a weekend break is a nice location with character, and friendly locals, sites to see, good food and a lively enough nightlife with plenty of photo opportunities along the way.

I'm open to alternative locations at a similar price, or maybe if anyone knows of something on somewhere in late Jan.

    thanks

I've not been there since 2006 (I think ..) and at the time I remember it was very cheap (compared to Ireland).

Not sure how much use this is to you though - inflation hits hard everywhere these days.

Hey Zippy, with Prague u can make the weekend as wild or as relaxing as u want really - the place has a bit of everything i found. I was there in Feb. '07 and really enjoyed it. A weekend is plenty time to take in all you'll want to do. The Local beers are very nice and cheap, the foods not bad either. The Irish bars will rip u off tho!

    Hey Zippy,
Headin to prague on Wednesday til Saturday with the girlfriend. Stayin in a 4 star also (the icon hotel).
By the sounds of things we'll be doin pretty much what your lookin at doin.
See the main sights, get a few nice photos, try some of the local beers, try some of the local food etc.
Gona be trying to do it fairly cheap too, as in go off the main streets for food and drink to get it a little cheaper and that.

I can report back on how I get on and how much is costs when I get back.

    Thanks for the replies,

Only thing that's beginning to put me off, that has recently been brought to my attention by two guys I know that are from Prague (that I forgot to even consider) is the fact that it'll be around minus 10 -15 in Jan...bummer!
Brings back memories of roaming the streets of NY in Jan a few yrs back looking for work! Good memories but **** weather!

Hmmm is it worth it - cheap and cold or reasonable and bearable??
