What is your opinion on the new Humax FOXSAT-HDR?

    Is it worth the 299£?

And I assume the only way to get it is to go up north or over to england at them moment.

Yes, but it will be cheaper.

Maybe Mailorder too, but more expensive.

I'd say they'll be hard to come by over the next few weeks - a lot of people have been eagerly waiting for them. And if it is anything like in May - the shops in the North will have very few of them to start with. Unless you get lucky online with Reserve & Collect at a North Argos - I wouldn't head north on the off chance - unless you're up that way. Personally I'm holding off until the new year.

    >>>>>RE:FOXSAT HD Versus SKY HD Offering?

I have Sky Plus Box I have a HD Ready LCD though,

Is what Sky in the South of Ireland HD channel selection totally different to what the same individual can get North of the Border U.K

How good is Freesat? what selection of channels is it possible to receive if you get a BOX and programme it with UK address.

Pricewise will the cost of these units fall in January 2009
Would the Freesat Box run in conjunction with my Sky Plus Box?

Or I would have to FREESAT BOX alone connected to my Sky Dish?

Will that mean ditching Sky completely?

    Thanks,

    John

Channels that yea can get - http://freesat.co.uk/index.php?page=whatson.Main
All of which you can get with a basic sat reciever from the likes of aldi/lidl.
With a basic setup, yea would need another dish or a dual/quad output LNB and run another cable to the Freesat box.

    Thanks for you reply.

So basically that would mean 2 Satellite dishes on top of the house,
plus installation costs plus cost of Humax/Foxsat Box and return trip to Argos or Currys in Newry/Belfast a lot of cost and hassle. :)

(Sky already got hundreds of channels to watch but I guess Quality over Quantity that matters)

These Aldi Lidl Satellite Dishes are worth waiting for Pricewise with 3 year warranty.
I notice my neighbours have theirs on ground facing SouthEast Direction in their back garden.

Financial out lay having extra dish on roof and all the rest of the Kit
What sort of cost € Euro Wise

Yea wouldn't need another dish, just a multi output LNB - other folks on here are more aware of costs etc so twill leave them to speak up

You can use the same dish. But you will need to replace your existing LNB with Quad LNB. Quad LNB will cost you about 50 euro.
With Quad LNB you can have your Sky+ and Freesat+ (meaning, Freesat receiver that will let you watch and record at the same time, same as Sky+)

Remember that with your sky you are paying monthly subscription fee and they can increase the price of your subscription whenever they want.

Freesat option is free, you dont have any subscription or bills.

If you have Sky+, you probably already have a quad lnb - have a look at where the existing wires connect to your dish. If there are two free connectors there, you're sorted - so it'd just be a matter of running down a couple of extra cables.
