Dell inspiron vs Dell Studio

    Hi

I know these models have been mentioned in many threads here, but I'm still confused! I need the laptop for work (research), and probably a Dell because I'll get it through the college. So for running various software programs and lots of general writing and office-type work, but no gaming / DVDs / music etc.

I don't really mind what I get, and have been looking at various Dell models. What I don't really understand is what is the actual difference between this Inspiron model for around e750, and the Studio model for around e830?

    Inspiron (e750)
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T5800 (2.0 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2 cache)

DVD +/- RW Drive (read/write CD & DVD)
    6-cell battery
    No Security/Anti-Virus Protection - English
    No Carry Case
    Dell™ Wireless 1395 802.11b/g Mini-Card - Europe
4Yr In-Home Warranty Support, including evenings and Saturdays
    No Accidental Damage Support
    DataSafe Online Backup 2GB

English EMEA 1 (EN, AR, DU, FR, GE, IT, CR,SP) Documentation
Resource DVD Inspiron 1525 - (Diagnostics & Drivers)
    65W AC Adapter
    Power Cord UK 1meter
    56.6k V.92 Capable Internal Modem & Adapter - Ireland/Spain
    Internal Keyboard Uk/Irish (QWERTY)
    1Yr Limited Warranty - Collect & Return
    Dell Internet Order

    Studio (e830)
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T5800 (2.0 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2 cache)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium SP1 - English
    Microsoft® Works 9.0 / English - (Does not include Microsoft® Word)
4Yr In-Home Warranty Support, including evenings and Saturdays
Jet Black Colour with Matte Finish
    15.4" Wide Screen WXGA WLED (1280 x 800) Display with TrueLife™
2.0 Mega pixel Integrated Web Camera
    3072MB 800MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [1x2048 + 1x1024]
    250GB (5400RPM) SATA Hard Drive
256MB ATI Mobility RADEON HD 3450
Fixed Internal DVD+/-RW Slot Load Drive including Software
Primary 6-cell 56 WHr Lithium Ion battery
    Internal UK English Qwerty Keyboard
    No Biometric Fingerprint Reader
    No Carrying Case
    Dell Wireless 1397 Mini Card (802.11 b/g)
    No Accidental Damage Support
    No Security/Anti-Virus Protection - English
    English - Documentation Studio 1537
    1Yr Limited Warranty - Collect & Return
    Studio 1537 Order - Ireland
Studio 1537 Resource DVD (Diagnostic & Drivers)
    90W AC Adaptor
Wireless Label (Dell Wireless Cards)- Core 2 Duo

As far as I can see the Inspiron has a bigger hard drive (which is good but not essential) and the '
Integrated Intel® Graphic Media Accelerator X3100
' while the Studio has the '
256MB ATI Mobility RADEON HD 3450
' - whatever these things are!

Am I missing the point about something? Why is the Studio more expensive - what's better about it?

    Any advice gratefully received, thanks.

The only real difference seems to be the graphics card is better in the studio. Going by what you say above you don't need it so go with the inspiron.

I think it's just better build quality.

Like it goes Inspiron > Studio > XPS.

    I would choose the Studio.
