Does music bring you closer to jesus/god ?

Norman greenbawns classic rock song spirit in the sky helps keep jesus alive in my life

Definately. I think the somber approach like alot of the Hyms etc drains the passion though. I don't think one particular form of music should have special privalage over another when it comes to singing praises. As a songwriter myself, The words and music spill from the abundance of ones own heart. i find alot of the orthodox (RCC, anglican etc), are very dour when it comes to song. Don't get me wrong, there are some beautiful hymns, but sometimes you gotta brake out the joy:)

I had no real idea what music that was termed "whitebread" would sound like. Then I heard some contemporary "Christian" music. Seriously, allright I'm an athiest, but I'm fairly sure theres no commandment "Thou Shalt Be Bland".

I agree some songs sung @ church dont sound very uplifting the way they are sung,

If the songs were sung in a more joyful way i think they would reach more people

Hillsongs United, Skillet, MxPx, Switchfoot, Blindside, Lifehouse, Jars of Clay, Jon Ruben

All Contempery christian bands and musicians and all far from bland.

There are many other bands/ artists who identify themselves as Christian but aren't necessarily Christian music. Off the top of my head, I can think of people like Sufjan Stevens, Neko Case and U2 (I gather some of them at least) who would fit into that category.
