I need a recommendation of a good comedy. Something recent I can get on DVD. I'm entertaining a young lady and want something light hearted and funny...

    Any suggestions?

Suggested already my mates that I have seen include, Knocked up, Don't mess with the Zohan, 40 Year Old Virgin, Juno, Get Smart, Meet the Spartans.......... Dam I've seen most of them. Is there any other good comedy's of late which i might not have seen?

Superbad? You've probably seen that one actually cos it's too f*ckin funny!

What about a Black Comedy or something. The Big Lebouski for example?

    Freddy Got Fingered.

^^ No I'm not being sarcastic (yeah I know it's pretty much univerally despised). I know it's an oldie but I saw it just this week. Prob the most I've laughed at a comedy in a while.

Its hard to know your taste, and generaly most comedies have something that gets at least a giggle or two.

but dont get Knocked Up. Dont even think about it.

Like a father warning his unsuspecting daughter before she heads over to a boys house to watch a film that he has been planning all day to get the mood just right and then POW! She's Preggers!

I'm a fan of Judd Apatow thanks to the brilliant Freaks and Geeks and his breakthru movie The 40 Year Old Virgin but lets face it everything else he does is patchy at best. Pineapple Express was the final straw for me. It's one of the worst comedies I've seen in a while. Didn't laugh once from start to finish.

Actually get your hands on Flight of the Conchords - Series 1. What episode is Business Time on? Episode 5 I think. You can serenade her while you watch it.

    Clerks 1+2
Dogma - watched this at least 15 times and I still laugh out loud when I see it.
    Maybe try Baseketball either.

I really liked Pineapple Express but I wouldnt credit/criticize Judd Apatow for it. The guy only has a story credit on the film, he didnt write it. I know he produces loads of films but he's only directed 2! He seems to get the blame/credit for every film he produces but I'd be more inclined to blame the writers/directors.

Note: I am a huge fan of the stuff he has written/directed

Eagle vs Shark is one recent comedy which is a bit under appreciated. Seemed to divide people on release, but its a geeky, Napoleon Dynamite-esque comedy that is good for many laughs. Not for everyone, but if you like that kind of comedy is worth tracking down. Also features the Flight of the Conchords crew, which is always good.

The King of Kong is also worth watching. May be a documentary about Donkey King, but it is also one of the funniest and entertaining things you'll ever see. Mainly because of the comedy gold that is Billy Mitchell.
