    I didn't get one :(

    From close inspection of the trace data I've figured out why I received it. I have one tcd account forwarding to another while bi passing the spam filter on the first. Thus the last hop is an authenticated server and not getting filtered. Bit of a flaw in the system tbh.

    You only have one L in your last name?

    TCD student email addresses are in a standard format.

    xyyyyyyy@tcd.ie
    or
    yyyyyyyx@tcd.ie

    Where:
    x is first letter of first name
    y is first 7 letters of surname.

    They really don't seem that standardised... I have 2 letters of my first name at the end, my lab partner just has her second name in entirety, another guy has 2 letters of his first name at the start... I get that if you have a common second name and first name you'll get numbers etc., but the ordering system doesn't seem to make sense.

    first letter of first name, first letter of middle name, full surname. They must've known I was cool.

    Yea i know there are more cases, but i wasn't arsed to type them all on a mobile :)

    Your lab partner, is her surname 8 letters long with her initial of her first name the same as the 8th letter of her surname?

    It's 9 letters long, but yes, the last letter of her surname is indeed the first letter of her first name. It's a pretty handy email address to have. Mine is just a jumble of letters with very few vowels. ;_;

    So then it does follow the same format I mentioned above. It just so happens that it is her surname.

    so if we're sent that email does it just automatically get deleted and not stored in our spam folder? cos i never got anything like that.

    Its entirely possible 1) one reported it to ISS, 2) someone in ISS read this post. Meaning if never got through the system to begin with.
