    New version of picasa out - i always found picasa particularly good for those starting out , and is still part of my workflow , as i don't have lightroom - anyone looked at the new version ? - I think it handles RAW - i didn't spend long looking

    Didn't the old version of it also handle raw?
    least I'm pretty sure it did for me :)

    Yep, Raw always worked with picassa

    RAW worked alright but i never found its translation from RAW to be of much use anyhow. That may have been its implementation of the .PEF format and perhaps it is better with other formats. Haven't tried version 3 but its quick n free and absolutely fine for getting the basics done. A bit quirky in places though.
