Morning lads. Im playing Sillogue for the first time this weekend. Having played Swords Open many many times im just wondering how Sillogue compares to it. The reason im picking Swords Open to compare it against is because the green fee is roughly the same and they are both Public Courses.
By the way, anyone got any pics of Sillogue??
    Cheers! :D

Ah the wonders of Sillogue, you just never know what will await you. A horse perhaps, or maybe a six ball in front of you, a group of boyos in trackies drinking cans throughout their round at least.

Layout wise it would have the potential to be a decent track but thats where it stops. I wouldn't go near the kip, but that's just my opinion.

Sillogue is a fair bit nicer than swords open, they would have been about equivalent until they took some of swords open for roganstown.

Sillogue has a lot more longer holes, some upturned saucer greens and a couple of pretty tough par 5s.

Dunno what f22s experiences are and haven't played there in about a year, but must have played there 30 times or more and never saw anything like what he says.

Same people who play elmgreen, hollystown, grange castle, deer park and swords open would play sillogue..

If you manage to avoid some or all of the things that f22 mentions then it's not too bad and worth the green fee at least. I would say it's more of a challenge than Swords Open. There are 2 great par 4s - 8th and 10th - both very tough. In summer the place is usually in decent shape but generally very soggy in winter from my experience.

I'd go along with that. It's a decent track with some really good holes. I think public courses get a bad reputation to be honest. The things F22 talks about are a rarity rather than the norm especially at this time of year. You'll enjoy it.

Play there a bit after work in the summer and when its dry its good value and can be a test with the long par 5s and the index one and two par fours. Can take a long time to go around on a sunday if your out in the morning.
I did happen upon a cow standing on the 9th green one evening (posted a pic in a previous thread) but most of the strange things 5 players on one hole, you only see in the summer.
Overall its ok for the price and marginally better than the swords open imo

It's a good test for what it is. That first par 5 is certainly tough if you don't get a good drive away. The only criticism I would have wouldn't be directed at the course but towards a certain steward who works there and who always seems to be in a strop.
