No. How do you define pointless because a band who has released yet another excellent album isnt what I would call pointless.

I'd hardly call it excellent, seems they're just milking the old cash cow at this stage, I mean whats that crack with Jay-Z like???
they're up there with the script in pointlessness imo

    mmm, I dunno ...

I loved the first album which, to my ears had interesting tunes and strange untypical arrangement things going on - and I always liked his singing.

But this, to me at any rate, is Baby Chords within a sythesised U2ish background ....

Superb sounding record though, but that don't mean nothing by itself !

What do you get out of it?

This is really it for me too, I still really like Parachutes, and some of the second album, and I remember their modesty when they played Slane in 2001, but I agree, I don't like what they've become, very much that 'stadium rock' sound. I also find that Kings of Leon have gone the same way with their new album, and I think it'll keep progressing that way for them too, which is a real shame I think because I really liked the first three albums. Listening to Youth and Young Manhood back then, I NEVER thought I'd see KOL on a 'Now...' compilation (which Sex on Fire is).
Sorry to derail from Coldplay to Kings of Leon there, but I think KOL are following the path that Coldplay have been down

Oh God No!! - Thats a sure fire way for a band to lose a lot of resect Imo,
might make them more money, but.....

I cant tolerate Chris Martin prancing around like a prat and wearing that coat with the armbands on it. Like the posters above i thought Parachutes was an excellent album, but there comes a point with some bands (for me anyways) where they start to take themselves far to seriously.

I wouldnt say they lose credibility musically in my eyes, but it gets to the stage where i feel like putting my foot through the telly if i see them dancing/posturing like a pompous ass. Coldplay make my skin crawl, and sadly KOL have gone that way too.

I can hear the music but all i see are a bunch of gimps.

Wouldn't call them alternative or indie myself.

could do with one of those...

    How are they pointless?

Viva La Vida is their best record.
Apart from Fleet Foxes there hasn't been much better released this year.

To my ears now, it's a click above elevator Musak. To me they even they look embarrassed.

Did you see the Jools show they were on? They were 'playing' that song with the string riff intro.
The implication is that the 2 boys were playing the part on keyboards. Yet Chris goes off to sing the next section and the guitar player starts playing guitar, yet the string thing goes on. They weren't playing the first bit at all.

Also whatsis face is 'playing' the bell, again miming.

Similarly the 'ohh ohh' bit at the end, more miming.

That sort of thing makes me uncomfortable.

Musically I find the tunes a bit nursery rhymey.

But that's only my opinion, you, of course, are welcome to yours!

    Yeah yeah...

I just don't understand the 'pointless' bit.A lot of people still love them.

As I say it's my opinion. To me they have no point anymore. Lots of people loved The Crazy Frog too ...

I don't understand how anybody would make an active, willful decision to listen to Coldplay.

Well, they are inoffensive. The album does sound fantastic from a technical point of view. So it is easy to see.

It's music for people who don't really like music.

    Thats a little harsh Paul.

I think their first two albums were excellent.

I think the third album had a couple of decent moments on it-although there was a serious lack of quality in the songwriting.

and i'm not mad into the new album, although, i do think the tune on it "Violet Hill" is a kick ass song tbh.

tbh, the feeling i get when i listen to them now is that they are trying too hard to be interesting and have taken their eye off the ball a little when it comes to the most important part, writing the tunes.

However, they're obviously inferior to The Evora, even though The Evora don't make their own clothes ...

I love music.I buy loads of cd's.I like Coldplay.
I think you are being a bit of a snob...

I respect the fact that you don't like them but saying that you think they are sh1t is enough.

Bono sings in an English accent for chunks of it! How is that possibly original?

Dont like to conform to mass opinion, but Joshua Tree?! Achtung Baby?! now thats genius

    Both true!

Sure they admitted that themselves when they went back to the same tack, a la Vertigo - and back with Lillywhite.

.... and you don't get that accent in Ballymun !!
