Sky+ Recording Problem

    Hi.

I have been having a problem recording with Sky+ for the last few days. Every recording fails and when I try to access the planner I get a "For Your Information" message saying "Please Wait" and "Press Back Up to continue". I also get this message when I try to pause a live programme. If I switch the power off at the mains and reboot the box I can then access the planner and live pause but this fails again after a while. Any idea what might be causing this and how can I fix it?

    Thanks.
    Mossie

Press Services 4, 0, 1, Select which will bring you to installer Menu.

Here choose the option for Planner Rebuild, and see if that works. There is another option, but that wipes the HDD, so probably not wise, unless all else fails.

There is also the possibiltiy that your HDD is on its last legs.

Disabling Instant Rewind might be no harm either if you don't use it, as it might be easier on the HDD.

There is an 11 page thread here about it, apparently it's an error from a recent software update!

Most people dont recommend doing the above because you will erase all your recordings and it definitely wont resolve the problem. Believe me I tried it and it did nothing. I even swopped out my 300gb harddrive for a 160gb one in case the 300gb was on its last legs but it made no difference!

I reckon Sky will just have to fix the problem and send out another update. Btw this seems to be a problem with V2 Sky + boxes only as my Sky HD and my Sky + V3 are fine thankfully!!

Ah right. Was unware of that.

I suppose ignore my advice so!

Thanks Guys. Seems like a general problem and not just my box.

Same thing happened to my Sky+. Had tried unplugging etc but no joy. I started the planner rebuild which just hung for about half an hour, so I had to unplug it, but when I plugged it in again all my recorded programmes reappeared and the recording facility was back.

The problem seems to arise only with 9F21XX Version boxes!

    Have you upgraded the harddrive?

Yes I have and that seems to be the problem. It seems the onlt solution is to leave the box on 24/7 not put it in standby at night.

Yep here too, don't put your box into to stand by as that's where the problem starts. So far everyone I talked to (that has this prob) is using an modified box. (Hard drive upgrade)

Edit: Turn auto stand by off in the Sky+ settings tab.

I had this issue (I've a modified box) and rang SKY - their solution is to put your old HD back in! I followed the steps in the link Branners69 posted at the start of this thread and all was fine - lost all the kids Power Rangers though!

Yep that worked for me too until I turned the box off over night and it went back to "Please wait" next morning.
Oh well I'm getting the HD box very soon so I will be rid of it.

I will be too but not until I move to a new house in January. I can probably put up with it until then.

I suspect this means it's shot?

I can't get into the recorded programmes page without switching off the box, pulling the power and then restarting.

This will let me see what I've recorded to date.I'll also have live pause and can record on the spot.
But any future recordings just fail-reason power failure.

    Any solution?

I ordered sky hd when this started happening.but this won't come untill january 9th unfortunately

Never fear dude (Long time no see BTW :) )

Apparantly its just a bad update to the box, a lot of people are reporting this.

You might try a forced download, if it is a software problem as my fellow celt suggests and they have resolved the bug it may help.

Once you have gone through the full power off and re-boot just make sure you don't put the box into standby again. Otherwise the firmware thinks the disk is not responding after coming out of standby. SKY are apparently looking into the problem and may issue another release of the firmware, but in the meantime leave it powered up if you have recordings scheduled. Not very green, though:D

I have this issue a lot. My signal isn't good because of the angle of the dish and when I get heavy rain and the box is on it happens. My understanding is that its a firmware bug. I've seen it on a few other forums (google future recordings failed sky plus).

Well I bought off a sky reseller. They're here in drogheda and apparently have a dozen boxes in store. Yay!

Came down this morning to find my box was off, on looking at it I think it got a software update. The glich looks to be gone and after a 10 min standby it still came on and recordings worked first time.
Good job sky! but from what I read it was not only modified boxes that had problems so they had to sort it out asap.

    :D

Have a HD box on it's way to me now and I'm not changing the Hard drive in this one...

Deffo not just modified boxes. I have one unmodified and its failing on recordings at 10pm every night for nearly a week.

As I just said in another post, I think Sky fixed the glitch,
My box was off (in stand by) this morning and when I rebooted the hard drive worked first time!
    Looks to be sorted now.

My SKY HD box had the problem this morning.
I have a(n upgraded) Pace V2 box that had it last week.

In both cases, removing the power cable, removing the viewing card, powering up and reinserting the card fixed the problem.
