Where can I get a replacement battery?

I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 for about 2 years now so I presume that its pretty standard that the battery only lasts less than an hour after that long?

Anyway, do I need to order one off Dell or where could I get one? I'm sure it would be pretty easy to install or should I get a Dell fella/gall out to do it?

Finally, lately the battery light on the Dell has been slashing orange. Up until then, it would only be a green colour when charging. Thought it was a fault but now that the battery seems to be losing its will to live, is that flashing orange light a signal on the Dells that the battery is reaching the end? Or was I right to begin with and its just a bug in the laptop? If the latter is the case, any idea how to stop it?

You should not have your battery in your laptop when you are running it off the mains, unless you are charging the battery. This will ruin it. Try www.partmaster.co.uk or even ebay. Ebay will probably be cheaper. And no need to get anyone to install it, piss easy :)

I've had my Inspiron 6000 for 3 years and the battery life has yet to decrease as far as I can tell.
Generally I keep it out unless charging, so maybe there's something in Duffff-Man's advice.

There most definitely is something in that advice! My Dell 6400's battery is down to about 5 seconds. And it's about 2.5/3 years old. It spent most of it's life plugged in, with the battery, i hadn't a clue about the damage this was doing to the battery until it was pretty much dead. The moral of the story is. Remove your battery when your laptop is fully charged/going to be plugged in for long periods.

cheers for the advice lads, will remember that.
and has anyone any idea about the flashing orange light? Is that a warning about the battery or is it most likely just a bug?

Yeah, a friends dell 6400's battery light flashes orange too. I think it's probably because the battery not being able to determine it's level so it just flashes orange. Dont know how to stop it. But if you're running it on the batteries, be prepared for it to eventually, and with out warning, to just die. It might say you have ~30% battery remaining, then bam, it'll turn off completely, ie lose all power. Then the battery will be truly dead, unable to hold any charge.

Could be just charging the battery, one of my laptops did it when it was charging the battery. Doubt it very much it's a bug.

Dont think so. The battery charging should produce a constant orange/red light, not a flashing one....well at least on Dell 6400/9400 models.
