Could we avoid bellybuttons

Underwear model Karolina Kurkova has no belly button http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/7738144.stm it says you migth not have a bellybutton because stomach deformation at birth, or surgery later or Umbilical cord left to detach naturally so why don't we do that.
