    Probably something to do with our wonderful weather. FFS I can't believe it's starting to rain AGAIN grrrr. Also a bit hairy for noobs & night games I would have thought....

    Yea id say insurance would be the main thing, but with the weather as is, going over awrkward in the mud will do the same damage as a trench. But dont tell them i said that lol

    You should also check with the planning manager (or whatever they're called) in your county as you may need permission depending on what you're doing. But I'd say the biggest problem would be your insurer not taking a like to the massive increase in risk caused by a dirty great hole in the ground.

    One was dug at the old hrta in swords... that was a propper fire tench so 4 odd feet deep and 8-9 long. even had overhead protection... it was collapsed onto itself when the site moved so im sure its fine now. i never knew that planning permission was required or even heard of it...

    why you ask?

    couple of pointers on trenches in non-war environments (sorry, this includes airsoft)
    i did some work in archeology years ago. there were pretty strict rules regards digging trenches. i was curious as to why naturally enough. it was explained to me like this;
    when standing in a two foot trench, all is fine if it collapses. you will maybe get pushed over, but probably buried only to your knees. if you are down on your knees (as you are in archeology a lot. you get a very small trowel to work with) and it collapses, you are 100% ****ed. it would be ditto in airsoft. what i would suggest is make sure verticle walled trenches are shored up and maintained by people who really know what they are doing, and any other trenches should be as shallow as possible.
    sorry if this does not address the question asked directly. just wanted to throw that out there for the sake of safety. hope it is helpful.

    Nothing wrong with throwing a few sandbags in front of the trench to provide more cover. IMO.
