Are there any over the summer? It'd be nice to have one as a target for after the college year.

There are also a series of 4 * 10 mile races in Munster starting in early Jan. Bit short maybe but might be an indicator of form.

    Mallow Jan 11
    http://www.mallowac.ie/10%20mile/10%20Mile.htm
    Waterford Early Feb
    Ballycotton March 8th
    Clare Early April.

Except for Ballycotton these can be entered on the day I think.

There is a really nice 1/2 M in Mayo along the coast from Louisburgh to Westport. Can't remember the exact date (end of Aug or early Sept.). Lovely, scenic and surprisingly flat course. It is organised by the Mayo mountain rescue team

6th September, AAI national Half Marathon, Ballybofey (Donegal).

For anyone looking at an autumn marathon The warriors run in Strandhill, Sligo on August 30th is a very tough 10 miler and will give you a valuable return in strenght for this lenght of race.
Owen Gahan used it a s a build up to his 4th place in AAI half, and in turn to a fine 2.30 run in Berlin.

Its my first attempt at running in any kind of race like this. Any info on some 10km races I could try before that would be welcome.

Thats after both marathons :-( Would love to do it if I have recovered enough after the biggie.
Irish Runner magazine has a diary of events for countrywide in the back. Many of the 10k's around the place are on this with details on entry etc. GOod luck. I am sure you will enjoy your first half.

Was all set to register for wexford but it's already full and I don't fancy the 200quid price tag for the arran islands one. Haven't seen any other races that fit in with my training for edinburgh, which is a pity.

Ah **** it anyway, wanted to do Wexford cos it's where I'm from and even goes past my parents house... Hadn't entered cos the credit card has been overloaded for the last few months and wanted to wait another few weeks before sticking the entry on it...

Debra Ireland have two Mountain Half Marathons- March in Wicklow, Sept in Carlingford.

These are far better than the likes of connemara one etc as they are on the actual mountain tracks with minimum road.

Registration fee is low. visit: http://www.debraireland.org/marathon.html

A pleasant flat half marathon taking you past Croagh Patrick and with Clew Bay to your left for the majority of the run its a cracking way to race with the sea air spurring you on.
