    Settle an argument please!

    If someone says "midnight Saturday" should they mean the 12am between Friday night and Saturday morning, or between Saturday night and Sunday morning?

    Midnight Friday would be friday night and Midnight on Saturday would be Saturday.

    How about next Saturday. Do you mean the saturday coming because its the next Saturday or do you mean Saturday after the coming Saturday. :eek:

    midnight saturday would imply you are counting hours on saturday, and 12 am would sujest that you have not yet made the transition into sunday (does not happen until 12am and 1 second lol)

    Is this about some horrible misunderstanding where you waited for your friends who never came?

    Ah look, if that's what it was, there should be no misunderstanding about that between two people who aren't idiots. Easy to clarify!

    Midnight Saturday is one minute after 11:59pm, on saturday at 00:00 (or 12am).

    check it on the clock on your computer against the date.

    even my watch is smart enough not to start rolling over the day-dial until around 4/5AM.

    Between the Saturday and the Sunday.

    Why, did you go meet your date the Friday night and think you had gotten stood up?

    Is the other person German?

    I know I've had a similar problem when I told my German boss I'd be in at half Eight, which I took as 08:30 but he took as 07:30 or halfway to eight.

    Thats because of the way the German language works.

    Sieben = seven
    Halb sieben = 6:30 to a German as the words directly translate as half way to seven, as our way of saying it, half seven = half way past seven.

    What always helped me, the German phrase is thinking into the future and Germany is 1 or 2 hours ahead of us.
