    Hi guys and gals :)

I want to pick up a bible and was wondering were I could get one? Would a regular bookstore like easons or that stock them? Or is there somewhere else I could get one?

Cheers for your help in advance.:)

I would also like advice on this, from a Catholic perspective. I think the notes in my current Bible are from some other religeon and don't make much sense :o

    Thanks

Yeah, any of the major bookshop will stock bibles. However, their range of translations may no be the widest. You will probably get a better price a more extensive selection from Christian bookshops or on-line from Amazon (especially from their new and used section) etc.

What type of translation are you looking for? A contemporary translation or the the pure poetry (though possibly less accessible) of something like the King James?

    I'm joking...

Gideons bibles are famous because they are left in hotel rooms around the world. There's even a song...
Anyway, heres a shop on Dawson St. and one on Georges St. that sell all kinds of christian litrature, I'm sure they'll help you pick one.

    :D lol at the thanks:D

OP Maybe try Veritas in Dublin city or ask a preacher/priest. They'd probably be delighted to guide you to a decent book and might even have a spare copy.

I'm getting a mental image of a bearded bloke standing on a hillside with a couple of stone tables ....... Thou shalt not .... etc etc ....

One of those Thou Shalts would certainly apply to the eager mis-appropriation of a bible :D

Revised Standard Version, 2nd Catholic Edition is good. It is published by Ignatius Press. Amazon.co.uk probably have the best price and is where I got mine recently. Good notes and lovely paper quality. See it here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0898709369

The New Jerusalem Bible is also good.

The Douay Rheims bible is good, with some of the most beautiful rendering of bible verses, but the old language may or may not be to your liking. See here: http://www.baroniuspress.com/category.php?wid=58&cid=1

I think the best thing to do is own several versions, as you may find it useful to compare them.

Veritas should have some of these bibles.

Now that the £ has fallen so low in relation to the €, Amazon might be your most economic option. Check out my friend's site too:
    http://www.icmbooks.co.uk/

He runs his business just outside Lurgan, so if you were up this way you could save on postage too.

I recommend you check out the various version free on-line at:
    http://www.biblegateway.com/versions/

If money is a problem, check with a local evangelical church and I'm sure they will be willing to provide one free.
