anyone know any shops around that would have some resonator guitars in stock to try, either wooden ones with the "hub cap" or the metal bodied ones. I'd love to try some out....

Nowhere tends to stock decent ones, only crappy Vintage and Epiphone ones. Try Perfect Pitch and Waltons if you're in Dublin.

I think Xmusic have a couple. Not too sure if they're square necks or whether they're round necks...

Check out X-Music, they have a great range out there at the minute. If you're into getting one check out Republic Guitars. I have one and they are superb. Epiphone, SX, Harley Benton and certain other brands are not worth the money. Really poor instruments.

those republics look pretty sweet. but I'm looking for something a little cheaper for now (but not complete firewood)

Are you looking to play it like a proper dobro, ie, on your lap with raised strings and a slide? Or just looking for a dobro like tone but with regular round neck so you can still play like normal?
If you are looking to have a go at playing slide dobro, you can buy nut extenders that will raise the height of your regular acoustics nut to accomodate dobro playing

I'd be looking to play it like a regular guitar, not exclusively for slide.

I already have an old acoustic with a raised nut and use it for lap slide playing. The action would be way too high to try and fret anything!

I've seen guys playing resonators like a standard guitar, then incorporate some slide in there. Sounds really sweet...
