Paris Marathon

    Hi guys

I've been training for the Paris marathon April 2009 for the last number of weeks with a view to signing up this weekend. It was to be my first marathon. :(:(:(:(

However, it's comepletely booked out!!!! And as you can imagine, I'm really disappointed - I had no idea places would be so much in demand. Obviously if I had, I'd have registered a few weeks ago...

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get on this marathon? I have friends running it, which is why I'd be keen to stick with my original plan before I search out another marathon around April...

I'd appreciate any advice or tips....

    Thanks in advance, md13

Thanks Woddle. I looked on that site - it's about £399 per person, which is a lot more than I'd anticipated spending if I had been organising everything myself, but of course, I appreciate that they have to make their money from somewhere....

I don't know what your budget is, but accommodation in Paris can be pretty expensive, so for 3 nights plus flights and entry fee, maybe that's not a bad deal...

(I've no idea what the accommodation they're offering is like etc. and I'm assuming they cover the flights (?), just think it doesn't look too bad on the face of it.)

It doesn't include flights but they can organise it for you. The hotel sports travel will be staying in is opera cadet and it's not far from the start. I doubt you would get any accomadation remotely close to the start. And if you do it's very expensive.

I remember from looking into a previous marathon with them that they don't cover flights. It definitely works out a lot cheaper if you can do it all yourself. It's mad how fast marathons fill up these days - I did Paris 4 or 5 years ago now and I didn't register until February at the earliest.

Yeah, a very good friend of mine registered in February 2007 for the April 07 Paris marathon - that's why I felt quite safe leaving it till now...

I will have a look at where the hotel is - I didn't think about staying somewhere near the starting point... it might be worth the extra cash so...

I'd agree. I know the flight isn't included but this doesn't look like too bad a deal to me. I'm sure you could do it cheaper yourself but thats not an option now you have no entry. I've stayed in Paris a couple of times and hotels are ridiculously expensive.

If you are going to go with it make sure you book your flight soon. You don't want to get stung twice

Flights to Paris that weekend are very expensive from Dublin ( €700+) for myself and two kids. Got it for €213 from Belfast. Apartments are much cheaper and handy in Paris as many of them are very close to the central areas. Loads of good sites to check them out in advance. It may be worth contacting the organisers to see if there is a cancellation list as there are bound to be people who won't get their medical forms in or accepted.

holy crap, since when did the Paris Marathon become so popular?? I've done it twice and on both occasions there was never a problem entering well into the new year.

Sure don't bother with it and come down to Cork in June for the marathon;)

I did it in 2006, and it filled up exactly 24 hours after the London marathon rejection letters went out.
