I've just split the "gusset" out of yet another pair of jeans (easy ElTonto!). Its an all too regular occurrance which I blame on my reliance on my bike for all transport.
Does this happen to anyone else?

Do you mean your ass has got bigger from cycling?

The only I problem I have is shredding the ends of jeans. My freddish solution involves rolling up both sides to just below my knees (for symmetry dontcha know!).

I look pretty spectacular on my commutes, white socks and all

Its from the flippin saddle wearing out the fabric I reckon. Can't keep a pair of jeans for more than 8 months before they become all draughty and illegal for use in public!

I've done that too fastback... it's not good, but I take it as being too much man for one set of pants :)

Jeans will wear out the crotch a lot anyhow. Best way to hold it back as much as possible is wash cold with fabric softner and only when you need to, i.e. don't over wash.

You could DIY them and use an old pair for patches or bring them to a tailor if they're worth it. I get very attached to jeans (mostly cos 38" waist is hard to come by in good cuts) so I'm about to have a go at a pair of Diesel I have.

The other option is to put a patch in them as soon as bought, like in cycling shorts. I think a compnay called Nudie do kits. Gives them a bit of reinforcement.

Thank god I'm not the only one to find it hard to get 38" jeans.... what do you suggest? I used to use Gap's 'worker' jean, but they don't do it anymore.... currently have a pair of Howies, but on the lookout still!

Surprisingly, when you google "Nudie" you actually get the jeans shop. Who'd've thunk it? :D

Thnak god moment for me too. I only really own 2 pairs of jeans, but I wear them a lot. I basically used ebay USA. I found a style and fit in BT2 then went looking. I found a seller with what I wanted and was able to check if they sold authentic stuff through a google search. Bought 2 pairs of same jeans off them. Basically got 2 pairs of diesel for $160 which is less than one pair here I think. I've been looking around for more and found play.com do some (you're looking for XXL size which is depressing in itself) and the jeans-online.pl have some 38s too, all depends on the style you're looking for. Did you see if GAP in Banbridge still stock them?

    Here's photo "padded" jeans

Yeah, GAP don't make them anymore, and haven't for 6 months or more, so any stock is gone, which is a pity -I lived in them!

Will check out that option -cheers for the tips!

No probs. You want the name of the Ebay seller? They've become a bit more expensive cos they only do BIN stuff. No more auctions. Hence my repairing the ones I have.

My advise would be to try a kilt.
If you knew any scottish people they would probably have one or something.

Yup, pretty much... I get enough abuse over the pretty constant short wearing in winter too... :)
