Rollers Question

    Hey Guys,

I'm just starting to get back on the bike after a long absence.

I have a set of rollers but when I use them I find it very hard to push very hard on them without wobbling and such..therefore I usually end up just peddling along at a very steady pace for an hour or so.

Would it be in my interest to pick up a turbo trainer or is there any little tips of tricks that people who use rollers would recommend?

Try and keep your pedalling smooth and circular - don't just press hard on the downstroke. That should reduce the wobbling.

I don't have rollers, but I've read that they're great for improving your riding style, i.e. keeping steady and straight and not wasting energy wobbling around. I'd stick with it and you'll probably find yourself improving over time.

Its just next to impossible to do interval training on them..

But as you said perhaps in time ill get the hang of it

Wondered how long it'd take before someone put that video of Mercx on rollers up :)

ok having never seen roller in the flesh, is there not a huge potential to fall off them hit the ground or fly off and hit the living room wall?

As far as I know, it's very hard to fly off backwards or forwards, but there's potential to fall off to one side alright.

Ah right. It looks like an incredibly dull activity. I'd rather go cycling in the rain than go on rollers.
Maybe if it was attached to a computer game with a pacer on the screen it would be a laugh. Like a cycling version of guitar hero.

I image using turbo trainers are more mind numbing? no?

    Or this sort of thing.

Dunno, never used one of those either. I'm not a serious cyclist. I can't excercise in my own living room or a gym type scenario.

I'd give that a go. Sprints only though. I'll take all of yis.

Now that does look like fun. Much more fun than the crazy no holes barred cycle fighting previously posted!

Be great if the DCC christmas party had this! The amount of cyclists in the room, everyone would be raring for a chance to have a go
