I don't want to get married, but I want to gain the benifits of marriage. What can one do without involving god, jesus a church and all that crap?

Eh, what are the benefits of marriage?

You can then inevitably adopt children, apparently.

    sex!!!

No seriously, stuff... like banking, inheritence, rights to tenantcy (or whatever it's called), next of kin, pensions... there are a million things, well there's not, but there's a lot of things that you can benifit from in a marriage. It's nuts really.

Get married outside that'll stick it to god.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,221 ✭✭✭✭m5ex9oqjawdg2i

Look at my signature, I rather not get aids...

and that hooker could rob me blind, kill me, eat my children etc etc. I want a loving togetherness with a woman, just me and my woman, I don't want no threesomes with God or any of his people...

you know now, if you find a willing priest, you can do that....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,221 ✭✭✭✭m5ex9oqjawdg2i

    God's still involved...

You know I don't have a problem getting married in a church with all the flowers and petals and choir and whatever... but I am not paying for it :)

Fecking 20K for all that lark and some sausage rolls? meh...

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,282 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

Just dont have a priest do it then. Doesnt have to have anything to do with god. Gods overrated anyway...

"Uh, this is very sad news, and it wouldnt've never happened if the wedding would've been inside the church with God, instead of out here in the cheap showiness of nature."

    :p

I'd count sausage rolls as a benefit of gettin married tbh.

u can get sex outside marriage. but ur gf/randmo stranger wont make u sausage rolls!

No she makes me pizza slice things... better than sausage rolls.

Would any of you get married in a church, by a priest, all holy and stuff, just to please everyone else?

You know? I will probably just get married like the normal joe, but before I say "I do" i'll whisper into the priests ear and say "I don't realy believe in God, I was dragged here..." Wounder what he would do... hmmm?

I'm in the process of formally apostasising, so I've forfeited my churchgoin' rights.

If I hadn't, yeah, there's a good chance I'd let myself get pushed into a church wedding just for other people's peace of mind.

Sorry, but I have no idea what that is... You are not allowed to go to church, how you go about doing that? I think I will stay a christian on my "files" for the sake of my family.

Has anyone got married without their religion being involved? how do you go about this?

I've sent a letter to formally renounce Catholicism. Like getting de-baptised. So I can still go to churches for other people's weddings, the holy water won't boil or anything, but I'm not a member of the congregation anymore, so obviously I can't get married there. (Or buried there....? Not sure.)

Anyway, my uncle got married in a HSE registry office, his wife was previously divorced. More about it here:

So could you have a ceromony as if you were to have it in a church... I don't want it in some office with a witness or two, want a celebration but I don't see why god has to be involved, you know?

What the hell do the HSE have to do with marriage??? That confuses me somewhat, thanks for the info though :)

why would you want to get married? Marriage is the will of women and weak men. Women want to be made a fuss of for a day and wear a big stupid dress and shop for months in advance and be the centre of attention. Never shall I play folly to those demands. Never again, that is.

Do you believe in god? If not then chances are he's not involved. And even if he is what's the big deal? Oh we are getting married in a church, we're such good catholics, nudge nudge wink wink *cue wedding acts of wanton carnality, none of which involve missionary position and all of which involve birth control*

are there not tax implications like shared credits etc? so if only one of you is working you can get double/increased allowances & credits? also as said the likes of pension and inheritance and next of kin also. if you are not married i don't think your partner is not automatically entitled to anything on your passing

If I was an atheist, no I wouldn't get married in a Church. As a Christian I certainly would. I think if one isn't really a believer in God yet gets married in a church that is really making a mockery of the process. Again just my opinion though. I've heard priests can be rather strict on things though.

Well if you get married in a church you are saying that you are happy to enter a marriage under the Church's guidelines. There are plenty of other ways to have a wedding I thought anyway?

That is a good call, there are decent tax breaks, i didnt think about them before i got married but they really do make a difference

Ah come on now, youre just broody :D

Benifits .....fine, you see plenty when youre all loved up.

On the swing side, if it goes worng..and plenty do.... the benefits you see quickly vanish and the solicitors bill grows quicker than the national debt :o

You have a civil wedding ...outside the country if needs be.

I can recommend Florida ...easy as anything. Show your passport, sign a form, pay your fee, say "I do" and its done.

And then you can celebrate all you like !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,536 ✭✭✭Mark200

If I ever get married I don't want to get married in a church either. I'm not religious, so I wouldn't see the point in it besides it being "tradition".

I know it'd upset a few people in my close and extended family who are fairly religious, or at least have a strong belief in God. But oh well.

and nothing spoils a wedding like a heretic melting after accidentally getting splashed with holy water.

Well my cousin got married a short while ago in Navan in a civil thingy and it was really nice. The room was lit with just candle light, they had music, they had poems read and all the aunties and uncles were there in there. It was like a tiny little church without the mention of god:D:D
So just because there is no church doesn't mean it had to be in some squished little office, sign a few papers and thats it...

I'f you dont believe in the Catholic faith, you really shouldn't get married in a Catholic church. You really are just making a mockery of our beliefs then.

By all means go ahead and get "civily unified" if you want, I'd never want to have to do it that way myself though.

You Infidels have too much time on yer hands...

I'll have you know I barely had time to write it at all, considering all the gay orgies and blasphemy I had on at the time. I had to stay up late to get it all done.

    Opposable thumb FTW!
