    No, Sony have said they are finished with backwards compatibility for the PS2 when they finished making the 60Gb PS3s. They may release a firmware update that can emulate the PS2 graphics chip but I doubt it if its even possible, all the PS1 games are run through the hardware and will always work. They took it out to cut the time and cost of making PS3s because they want to catch up to the 360 asap.

    Abe's Odyssey is a PS1 game isn't it? That will play fine on PS3.

    Works for me on my 60GB original PS3, after that one it was taken away.

    If you worked in Sony would you want people buying PS1/2 games for next to nothing or buying €70 games?

    If you really want to play ps2 games you can pick a 2nd hand ps2 up for less than €50.
