Is your NTL/UPC digital service jumping/pixelating?

    Little tip here.

I'd had the same problem that I'd heard loads of other people reporting about NTL digital - the sound jumping, picture freezing or jumping and pixelating, and sometimes the screen would go blank and the EPG would pop up (a bit like a reset).

My brother had the same problem and rang NTL, who sent out an engineer. The engineer looked at the setup and told him that the cables were incorrectly attached to the splitter. He fixed it, and their service has been perfect since.

So I checked mine, and lo and behold the splitter was set up wrong. There are three connectors on the splitter - In, Out and Tap. My Digibox was connected to In, Modem connected to Out and the wall was connected to Tap.

So on Sunday I changed them around - Wall to In, Digbox to Out and modem to Tap. And it's been perfect since.

If you're going to do this, I recommend you plug out the modem and digibox before you switch the cables around. I had to do a factory reset on my digibox to get the TV guide back.

Your modem should be connected to "out" and your TV connected to "tap."
With it connected to tap you're losing 6db which might tip your modems transmit level close to it's upper limit. The out connection only drops signal by 1db. That 5db could make or break a modems online lock where as it wouldn't make as much difference to your TV picture.

Haven't noticed any problems myself with the internet connection, but if I do I'll give that a go, cheers.

Thanks for that. Mine has always been fine but I had two different splitters (second installer was lazy :D ). While changing it hasn't made any noticeable difference (it was fine anyway) getting rid of a splitter and cable makes it look neater. :)
