I have a small issue, I started a job last Thursday, and on the Monday just gone I got a response from the welfare office to say that I had been approved for the dole, the first payment was supposed to be today.

Now, I still want my first payment because it contains back payment for the last few weeks. But, obviously I'm in work!! Not only that but apparently I need some kind of slip to collect it from the post office, which I don't have.

So, I need to A) cancel the dole, and B) Arrange to get this payment. But the number I have for the Tallaght office just rings out.

Does anyone know if they would send this cheque out in the post? I'd rather not have to take time off from a new job to get this sorted!!

    Many thanks.

Not a problem - you are entitled to your Jobseeker's payments right up until the day before you started work. You will need to contact Tallaght (would it be possible to go in person somehow?) let them know when you have started work and they will send your payment out by cheque.

I have ranted on about social welfare phones in the past - stupid system will sound as if it is ringing non stop, when in reality it is engaged. If you can't get to the office in person, maybe send notification in writing - you could perhaps put a note in the letterbox which they use for medical certs.

Good luck in the new job
