Six axis gone haywire????

My six axis controller started acting up last night when I turned my ps3 on, or at least, when I tried to turn it on with the six axis via the ps button. But the 4 red leds just kept on flashing which I assummed meant that it could not establish a bluetooth connection with the ps3 and so it would not turn the ps3 on. I got the power lead and used it to connect the controller to the ps3 and it worked fine then, i.e. turned the ps3 on, established a link and operated as it should. I then unhooked the power lead from the controller (and thereby making it wireless again) and it still worked fine. Now the controller has a full charge so its not a drained battery thats causing the problem so does it have a fault or can it be reset in some way?

BTW, I don't have another controller at the moment to see if its the ps3 that is at fault (hope not as the bloody warranty only expired last week!!)

Does your bluetooth headset connect with the PS3? What about connecting wifi to the internet, does that work without using the ethernet cable from the netgear adaptor?
Try them first to eliminate a console problem connection. Also if not playing games the new FW has a controller shut down after 10mins when not in use. Where you watching a blu-ray/dvd and noticed it powering down?

I sent my bluetooth headset back when I quit the last job (it was their headset and phone) but I'll try the wife's expensive and unused headset that I bought her last xmas tonight. I don't have wifi internet access, I use the netgear homeplugs to access the net.

This problem started off when I tried to turn the ps3 on last night. The leds flashed as they normally do when acquiring a connection but instead of connecting to the ps3, they kept on flashing and then turned themselves off, presumably cause they couldn't get a connection. The strange thing is, that once I used the cable to connect the controller up and establish a connection, it then worked wirelessly as it should. Very strange????

Seperate, You have a ethernet cable going from the adaptor to the PS don't you iirc. Does it work without that cable? ever try it?

    OT
Excuse to go out and buy the dualshock3 then or pop over tonight with Deadspace and i will give you a lend of one of my many controllers:p

Nope never trired it without the ethernet cable. I don't think its wifi capable but I'll give it a go tonight.

Why don't you pop over to my house and I'll let you play Deadspace - I'll see if you can get past the blasted asteroid level. I'm still flipping stuck on it!! Its a brilliant game though!

BTW, I know I said I wouldn't do it but I succumbed and bought COD World at War in Smyths for €44.99. Haven't played it yet as I want to move on with Deadspace but its ready and waiting to be played. I hope its not another turkey like Haze and Far Cry 2 (had to get that in there ;))

Does it happen all the time now? This has happened to me a few times before, all I needed to do was turn on the PS3 manually and the controller would connect. I've had the PS3 2 years now and it really has only happened a few times!

There is a reset button on PS3 controllers beside the L2 trigger. You need a small object to press in the button.

Sounds like the ps3 just lost the bluetooth pairing information for that controller. By attaching it via USB again, you re-paired the controller and ps3 (you need to do this when you first get a controller, or if you use your controller on a different ps3)

Unless its happening regularly, I don't think its an issue. It happened once for one of my controllers a few months back.

Thanks for the replies guys. I googled the issue and it appears that it is a fairly common problem with the six axis. There was a mention of Sony providing a solution via a new firmware update that would improve the bluetooth connectivity.

I'm going to get a dualshock 3 anyways as I think its a better, i.e. more robust controller than the flimsy and squeeky six axis.
