Hi all. Ive just purchased a cz 452 .22lr and have just applied for my license but was told it could be tricky because of the debate about illegal guns. Anyone else been told this lately. My plan is to use it mainly for target shooting and ive already joined courtlough. Any advice or info would be great.Or any thoughts on coourtlough im hearing mixed reviews about it.

    thanks in advance

I wouldn't worry too much. They'd have to be banning damn near every rifle in the country if they wanted to ban a CZ 452. Your local Gardai might be a bit slower in granting the cert if they think they're under heavier scrutiny but I doubt they'd refuse the cert on those grounds. If they do refuse the cert it's more likely to be on the grounds that you don't have sufficiently safe storage or something.

I've only been to Courtlough once to shoot clays. I had good craic (even if I was rubbish at it :o). Apart from that I can't tell you much.

Hate to say this, keep the local economy alive and all that, BUT when you have found the scope you want buy from the UK as you will get it cheaper . Good exchange rate now.

    Try

I got an MTC Viper 10x50 from the UK - worked out at nearly EUR200 - it's a good solid bit of kit for starting out - it's got an illuminated reticle and I got the one with the SCB reticle - it goes down to .25 of a mil. I can't fault it for the informal stuff I do with a 452.

You'll just have to shop around for prices but make sure the safe has two locks and if possible a seperate lockable compartment for ammo. I have a seperate small wall safe for my rifle bolts, ammo etc. these are cheap enough. As you have a scoped rifle make sure the safe is deep enough, some are fine for shotguns but have difficulty with rifles.

As important as the safe is where you locate it. It should not be visible from a downstairs window and needs to be bolted to a solid wall. The wall bolts that came with my safes were crap, I drilled out the holes and fitted much larger ones. It's unlikely the Guards will inspect it for a .22 but if you move up to centrefire they probably will and you don't want to start all over again. I speak from experience here, my CPO even looked inside the safes and counted the number of bolts.

Hope this is of some help.
