Facebook purchased the copyright on paragraphs so now only they are allowed to use them. Expect to see boards.ie charters updated soon to reflect this.

There are loads of social networks that are very country specific - the belching Belgians for example go for something called NetLog with their mayo & fries, there's Hi5, Skyrock, etc.
I think there are only a few really global ones e.g. The Book of Faces & MySpace.

You could always revert to email, a little known messaging system that functions like a mail system.

Supports paragraphs, attachments, address books and signatures. I discovered it the other day and its amazing :P

There are some terms that are ok, but ffs, using number instead of letters. It takes them a hell of a lot longer, it has to.

You could say the exact same thing about acronyms and abbreviations (like wtf for example). They are both a type of short hand that some people don't understand, although I'd say more people can understand text speak then acronyms like wft, rofl, tbh, ffs etc. Don't get me wrong I hate text speak because it's abysmal to look at and some of the terms can mean various different things to different people but even then I can understand and decipher it, yet I never use it. The people who rabble on about not being able to understand a word of it are (in most cases) just drama queens or just over exaggerating.

If you look at most of my posts, (apart from the World of Warcraft thread) you will see I never use FFS or WTF, I put them there on purpose.

I do understand the crap text, sorry leet speak, or whatever, but it is an eyesore and your brain (No matter what you say) can not read that as fast as normal common text. your brain is not used to it at all.

Completely agree it is an eyesore. One of the best things I find about boards is the no text speak rule. Part of the reason my typing skills/spelling/grammar (waits for someone to point out obvious spelling/grammatical mistake ) are as good as they are (they were worse), is because of places like boards where pretty much everyone's writing skills are to a decent level. You're essentially practicing it every time you log on and learn from others just by reading their posts. If bebo banned text speak, then I'd say writing skills across the land would increase quite a bit.
