The iPod White Screen of Death

My friend just bought me an iPod in New York and returned (to my horror) with an iPod with no receipt, a store I can't exactly return to (it being an ocean away) and the White Screen of Death!

For those who don't know (I was one of them until today!) this has turned into a common enough problem with iPods recently.

Mine is an iPod Classic 120 gb and everything works perfectly (you can hear music, you can hear the click-wheel click) but the screen stays completely blank - white. You never see anything on the screen ever. No Apple logo when you try desperately to reset, nothing.

I googled half a million websites and found a PC World column where some guy let the battery drain and then restarted it working properly. I'm in the middle of trying this. I have music playing on it to drain the battery (i keep clicking random buttons until something plays) and i'll let you know if this works, but if anyone else has had the same problem and solved it - PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW!!!!!!!!!!

    Before anyone answers -
    1. I've already charged it fully
    2. I've reset it 250 thousand times
    3. I've restored to factory settings
    4. I've updated the software
    5. I've even prayed...

Don't worry, all portable Apple products have worldwide warranty for 1 year so you're covered! You'll just have to ring them, quote your serial number and they'll send you out a packet to put in and post to them, might be 2 weeks before you get it back but it'll probably be a new one.
