John McIntyre has been announced the new Manager of the Galway Senior Hurling Manager. I think he will do a good job.

From Lorrha in Tipperary, played senior intercounty for Tipp. Managed Clarinbridge to their first County Senior Title in 2001, as well as a few stints with a few other Galway clubs. Had 2 somewhat underwhelming spells in charge of Offaly too, although I don't know too much about the situation there.
Is also the sports editor of the Connacht Tribune.

id be worried if i was a galway hurling fan to be honest. i wouldnt be inspired with this lad in charge, but sure, what do i know out hurling :D

Loughnane should have been given another year.

IMHO Loughnane was a waste of time. He has done more damage than good.

John McIntyre managed the tiny Sarsfields club in Galway to consecutive club All-Irelands (1st club to do so) in 1993 and 1994.

Very knowledgable hurling man and I heard (not certain) that he has Hardiman (All-Ireland winning minor manager) and (blank - can't think of his name) who was an All-Ireland winning u-21 manager and Joe Connolly the famous 1980 Senior captain as his selectors.

John Moylan is the the "blank" - He was a Selector on the U21s

No he didn't! Michael Conneely (1980 Galway goalkeeper) was.

He seems to have left behind a up and coming Offaly team behind him. I wouldn't be too sure that he did so badly with them.

He has ran for the Galway job twice before. Being the sports editor on the Connacht Tribune McIntyre has written some unflattering stuff about County Board members in the past. I don't know how he got it really.

He does have an in depth knowledge of club hurling and hurling politics in Galway because of his job and I think this will stand to him. He has assembled a good team with him. Connolly is a hugely respected figure in Galway hurling, for obvious reasons and John Hardiman has proven his quality in the past in charge of the minors and more recently in charge of rebuilding of Athenry after their glory years, he is very much a coach/trainer. Don't know so much about Moylan, but from what I've read, his strengths are as a coach/trainer as well.

Optimism is something you need to have as a Galway hurling supporter, but I am optimistic about this appointment.

My apologies, you're correct on that one.

Don't know what I was thinking of ???

New Galway hurling manager John McIntyre has omitted Alan Kerins, Tony Og Regan, Eugene Cloonan, Conor Dervan and Kevin Hayes from his preliminary squad.

Kerins is the most glaring omission, having been a regular on the Galway senior side for the past 11 years, while Cloonan is also excluded after returning to the fold this year. Hayes, who featured at centre forward in this year’s All-Ireland qualifier defeat to Cork, also loses out, as does Dervan, who came on as a sub in the same game:

Centre back Regan last played for Galway in their National Hurling League final defeat to Tipperary last April.

    Provisional Galway hurling panel: J Skehill, C Callanan, O Canning, B Costello, E Lynch, J Lee, F Healy, G Mahon, F Moore, J Canning, N Healy, R Murray, K Hynes, K O’Donovan, B Burke, G Farragher, S Kavanagh, A Coen, D McLearn, E Forde, K Huban, B Mahony, J Gantley, M Ryan, C Donnellan, A Smyth, P Killilea, M Kerins, D Hayes, A Cullinane, D Joyce, D Tierney, N Hayes.

That M Ryan is hardly Micheál Ryan from Templederry, is it?

A Kerins must still be injured, interesting to see his younger brother included too.

No surprise to see Chunky Hayes gone, how did he ever get championship matches for Galway, far too slow and cumbersome. At least Damine Joyce isn't being hung out to dry after being chucked in at full back against Cork back in July.

M Ryan is Martin Ryan (Kilconieron). I must say I like this selection. He seems to have gone with form players, that have impressed in this years county championship Killilea, Eoin Forde, Kieran O'Donovan. Bit surprising that Kerins has been omitted, but I'm sure he will be back during the league. Delighted to see McClearn and Mahony form Loughrea on the selection. They should have been there for the last two years. Good to see Tierney back as well. There is a good mix. Overall, a good selection considering the likes of Tannian and Collins have still to return. The only doubt is Regan. He was tried in the problematic full-back position against Tipp last year and didn't do well. There are plenty of options for both the full-back and centre-forward in this selection.

Looks like Ger Loughnane has gone on the rampage about his time in Galway:D

Ha. I knew he would have a go sooner or later. When he criticised his own players in Clare after all they achieved for him, he was bound to go to town on Galway County Board. I think there might be an element of truth about the Chairman though.

Loughnane is a class act. Fair play to him for giving it both barrels to the Galway board - if only there were more like him. He won't be returning to hurling - to concentrate on hunting or something like that. Anyway, he's a good pundit. Hopefully we will see him back on the box when the ground gets a bit harder.

I'll agree he's a good pundit, and was a great player but class is one thing this man wouldnt know if it hit him in the face, he has an ego the size of east clare

Any word whether Loughnane will be returning to the Sunday Game next year?

I'm not a huge fan of the county board or anything, but Loughnane was never going to admit that he might have been to blame to the lack of success. Truth is Galway are in a very different position to Clare when he took over. He probably didn't have the resources to have success, only time will tell.

If you equate being a good pundit with being controversial then he is a great one. No doubt he will be back on our screens again soon stirring sh*t. Galway are better off without pressure of the media attention he himself created.
